My largely improvised book tour for "The Revolution Was Televised: The Cops, Crooks, Slingers and Slayers Who Changed TV Drama Forever" made its first stop on television this morning, as I was a guest for a segment on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien." A good time was had by all (one of the panelists even wanted to continue the discussion during the commercial break), and it also provided me with an excuse to finally learn how to tie a half-Windsor knot. (My dad taught me the four-in-hand, and that's more or less where my tie education stopped.) If you want to see me in moving picture form, here I am:

Meanwhile, I'm going to be on Dallas's The Ticket sportsradio station today at 2:15 p.m. Eastern to talk with hosts Bob Sturm and Dan McDowell. You can listen live at The Ticket's website or with the iheartradio app. And here are some other recent review and interview links of note. As always, you can find these links and lots more info about the book at AlanSepinwall.com

* I made the Must List in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

* I did another live-chat, this time at my old NJ.com stomping grounds.

* I appeared on KPCC Southern California Public Radio with Alex Cohen.

* Jeff Simon of The Buffalo News wrote a very complimentary review of the book.

* Amy Edelman at IndieReader.com interviewed me about my decision to self-publish.

* I was a guest on the Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show podcast. A good, long conversation.

* I was a guest on the Downtown with Rich Kimball show on Maine radio.

Once again, if you have any questions or thoughts on the book, feel free to drop them in the comments or email me at sepinwall@hitfix.com

I've linked this elsewhere, but I wrote a lengthy blog response to Alan's book, about why post-golden age dramas have struggled to attain the same heights as their predecessors, in part because of trying to emulate them. Here it is, for anyone interested.

You are all famous now, Alan. How long before there is a VH1 special on your life?

the minister I dunno about that, but Alan might be able to wiggle into a Larry Sabatoesque "get me that TV critic we always get, you know, what's-the-fuck-his-name" rolodex role.

Not a bad spot to be in. Sells a lot of books.

Podcast has been good training for you Alan. Pretty good talking-headship. See if Teri Gross will have you on. Bianculli is a HACK critic (not a half-bad interviewer though.)

If that doesn't work, get on whats-his-name's NPR thing out of SF (speaking of hacks.) Or Talk of the Nation. I don't think you're right for Diane Rehm. My brother says Howard Stern is a huge good TV fan these days.

Now THAT will sell some books.

S Speaking of NPR, maybe On Point would be a good outlet. They actually had an episode the other day called "The Television was Revolutionized," and I thought it would be about Alan's book. Alas, it was about the trend toward streaming/a la carte. Still interesting, though.

I haven't bought Alan's book (yet), but I am glad to see it getting so much positive attention. Congratulations!

P.S. Agreed on Bianculli. He had Dexter, AHS and True Blood on his top 10 last year.

"Thanks for coming on the show, Alan. Allow us to poke you in the eye some more re: Golden Globes ridiculousness by including clips from The Newsroom in our discussion of the best dramas on television." Also, not sure why people calling it "Downtown Abbey" still makes me laugh, but it does.

You did great on CNN, Alan. I have your book on Kindle. Not far into it yet, but enjoying it. Hurray for you. Nice to see someone doing such good work on tv universe getting a little limelight.

As a LONG-time reader, I feel as much pride as anyone can feel who doesn't have anything to do with someone else's success. Kudos.

I do feel this strange bond with Alan. Just knowing that I've read Alan's stuff starting with his "NYPD Blue" recaps on Usenet.

    Congratulations on a successful career.

    Great job Alan!!

Love the comment about these shows being the movies we want to see. Can't stand the big budget CGI fests that the studios produce now. Love a well scripted drama though.

Nice work on the CNN section. Handled it like a boss.

I would have honestly taken both Justified and Boardwalk over Homeland this year.. the plot is just a mess. Otherwise a very good list, Alan.

Congratulations Alan! Now maybe when I say "my favorite tv critic Alan Sepinwall" people will say "ahh, I just saw him on CNN."

I second The Minister's suggestion to try to get on Terry Gross's show. I would love to hear a discussion between you two!

I have been following your work since your NYPD Blue days, and appreciate the introduction to all the excellent shows you've recommended over the years. By now, I know that if you love a show, it's a must-see. Just got your book, can't wait to read it.

Thanks for everything, I look forward to what you come up with next.

Well done, Alan. Your many podcasts prepared you well for the televised conversation! Have to say how much I've enjoyed your book and I'm not the least surprised by the growing enthusiasm. It's hard earned and for those of us who've been reading your blog for years (in my case, 8+), it's so great to see.

I absolutely devoured this book in two days. Thank you, Alan, for such a well written book that really highlights and gives credit to some wonderful programs.

**P.S. I feel you should know I never saw 'The Sopranos' before I read this book. That has now changed.
