A few hours before "The League" concludes its fourth season, FX has renewed the comedy for a fifth.

"The League is flat-out one of the funniest shows on television," FX VP of original programming Nick Grad said in a statement. "Co-creators Jeff and Jackie Schaffer have such a perfect take on the material and the show has an amazingly talented ensemble cast of stars. Another season was an easy decision and we hope to have it on our schedule for many more years to come."

The fourth season of the series about a group of friends and family competing in a fantasy football league concludes with back to back episodes tonight at 10:30 and 11. I'm actually way behind on this season (as I am with "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," which was already renewed for next year as part of an older deal), but look forward to catching up soon. For those more current than me, how have you found season 4?

I haven't been as high on Season 4 as previous seasons. Not quite sure how to word it, but every episode they seem to spend a lot time setting up jokes that you can see coming a mile away.

Still a funny show, just not as great as previous years.

This is one of my all time favorite shows, one that as soon I get home from work (I work nights) I have to download it and watch it before bed. Each year I'm worried the show is going to get stale and start to go downhill, but this has been another tremendous season and the laughs just keep getting louder, this was a great early Christmas present to hear that The League will be back for a 5th season!

I have always loved this show, but I felt like in some of the past seasons they've forced trying to build to a "Curb" like crazy ending for episodes, which has hurt it a little , This year they haven't resorted to that, and some of the episodes have been some of the dirtiest and funniest things ever. Rafi is amazing in the Cutlet episode.

whereas last year, my hands down favorite comedy to look forward to every week was Parks and Rec, that honor has now been bestowed on The League this season. Just a homerun in nearly every episode. Do yourself a favor and catch up!

I still think they have only a casual understanding of fantasy football, but I love this show. This season has had a ton of awesome moments for Taco and Rafi to shine. Taco may be my favorite comedic character on TV right now.

This season of The League really outdid itself. Anchor Baby and The Breastalyzer made my cry.

One of my favorite shows. Rafi may be the dirtiest/filthiest/funniest character on TV right now. I'm constantly laughing every time he shows up. Happy they're bringing it back.

I think the show is hilarious, it's very crude but so what? I also think that the chemistry between all the leads is great and better than most shows.

I love The League. I honestly think it's the funniest show on TV right now. I laugh more watching this than anything else, including Parks & Rec and Modern Family. This season has been great. I still think their greatest was the Thanksgiving episode last year, but this year has been hilarious. I know this is immature, but the whole colonoscopy scene, followed by Ruxin's description of what really happened, slayed me.

Well, it looks like FX's PR staff has been busy posting today! I'm an NFL season ticket holder, fantasy football dork, Caddyshack-level humor enthuiast, and a big fan of Kroll/Scheer/Duplass et al, but I think The League is abysmal. I made it through two seasons of giving it a chance (because it would seem to be so up my alley), one season of hate-watching, and then I abandoned it after this season's awful premiere.

It desperately wants to the the jock version of Entourage, but it can't even clear that low bar.

BMK I take offense to the FX PR Staff Comment (if it validates my opinion for you, I stopped watching Sunny and don't care for much else on FX besides Louie). I truly do think this show is hilarious. I won't say if you are in the minority or the majority regarding your opinion of the show, but it's certainly doing well enough to be renewed. You're welcome to your opinion of the show (it won't stop me from watching), but to try to invalidate someone else's legitimate opinion is unnecessary.

Atta I think the football element is the weakest part of the show . Anytime there's an actual football player on the show is when it's weakest. So enjoying fantasy football doesn't mean you'd like the show, there has to be some gimmick to every show.

miraclemet Jmass> Still not sure what it is about the show that you dont like... Everyone is welcome to their opinions, but can you tell me what its based on?

Atta> I'll agree with you that the stunt appearances by the NFL players are best left by the wayside. They often feel forced, and at even at their best still take away from the momentum of the episode. While much of the show is only losely scripted (If I remember right from cast interviews) the Stunt cast sections feel very scripted, and thus loose the energy of the rest of the episode. Wonder if the stunt casting is just part of the cross-promotional agreement with FX's big brother Fox so they are stuck with it.

Haven't seen the last two eps just yet, but this season has been a relatively weak one. It's still funny, but much of the cleverness evident in seasons 2 and 3 was absent. Hopefully, the show rebounds in season 5. a good way to start would be to pull back on the tremendous amount of inorganic cameo appearances.

I have a love/hate relationship with the show. It can be funny at times, and I think all the actors are pretty great ... but most of the time I find it just a little too dumb for my taste (in an unfunny way). They resort to bodily function humor and football celebrity humor on a much more frequent basis than I would like, and I don't find that stuff funny. I still watch it consistently though, so they must be doing something right.

This show is consistently very funny, and is at its best when Jason Mantzoukas appears as the wonderfully batshit insane Rafi. I'd definitely happy to see its coming back for a fifth season.

I think this year has been the funniest one yet. Every episode just gets better! This is one of the best comedies on TV this year.

Thought the stories last season were stronger... a lot of these episodes felt very thin in terms of the plot. Been better in the 2nd half of the season, though.

It's been funny, but Season 3 was better. Season 3, I'd argue it was the funniest show on TV. Now, it's just a really funny show.

the league was good in season two. since then it has been downhill, and this latest season rarely had had even the pretense of comedy. i question the intelligence of anyone who has enjoyed this latest season

Season 4 has been the first one I've watched. It's consistently funny and the characters are awesome. If it's true that season 4 is weaker than earlier ones, then I'm in for a heck of a treat when I start watching old episodes.

Thought the fourth season much better than the third, which was quite a relief. The finale episode had me in stitches while the best line of the entire series was also included in season four. Great news that it will be coming back!

Since "Parks & Rec" can't find more room for Jason Mantzoukas as Dennis Feinstein, I will happily settle for him as Rafi, all day every day.

      Phil Spector Alan,
Do really read all of the comments? Some people who post here are either allergic to humor, trolling for responders, or skip Bayless-ing the message board. Watch the season and let us know how you feel about this season, but what I will lead you toward is a couple Rafi scenes (and a dirty Randy scene) that will make you fall off your couch laughing.

Write a comment...Gotta say, I came to this series reluctantly expecting a bunch of stupid sports-jokes and plots. Holy shit -- I thought the previous seasons were great and funny, but this latest one has me just dying.

Every episode has multiple scenes and lines that are so killer, it's just scary (and sad that you can't repeat most of them in public).

This was their best season, I'd say. I was laughing through nearly every episode. Rafi sure did get the best lines.

    "GATTACA! GATTACA!"

"I don't know who you are, but you're about to get chlamydia!"
