Firewall & Iceberg Podcast, episode 160: SAG & Golden Globe noms, 'Sons of Anarchy,' 'Homeland' & more
Dan and Alan also answer mail about 'Parks and Recreation' and when bad writing happens to good acting

It's a slightly delayed episode of the Firewall & Iceberg Podcast, as Dan and I were both busy on Monday, and then decided we might as well wait until today so we could make fun of the Golden Globe nominations. Which we did. For a while. We also did our usual "Homeland" discussion, reviewed the latest season of "Sons of Anarchy," answered your mail and more.

December 13, 2012 at 10:55PM EST Reply to CommentFake real accents: Alexis Denisof. I never buy his American accent.
dan Keith - Alexis Denisof is an odd but fair example. Absolutely. He's like David Anders in terms of actors who became weirdly successful doing British accents before anybody knew they were American and now sound wrong when they're American...

Merve Another fake real accent: Lauren Cohan. I know her real accent is English, but it sounds fake.
December 14, 2012 at 3:24AM ESTSome Guy I think her real accent sounds strange because she grew up in the US, moved to England in her teens and has subsequently spent much of her time moving between the two.

December 19, 2012 at 3:04AM EST Reply to CommentEvery time the discussion of the romantic relationships on Parks and Rec comes up, I'm reminded of this focus group info that came out in spring 2009 before the first season aired:
"The show could use a genuinely likeable male lead. The lack of quality male characters was evident in both the Dial Test and Focus Groups. While Leslie, Ann and April are good characters; all the men in the show were seen as “sleazy” in one way or another. Because there are no “datable” men in the cast, there is little “romantic tension” or “interesting relationship potential” in the show."

It bugged me then that there was a perceived need to have romantic tension at all, and I've always wondered how much this has driven the need to pair up the characters. I'd love it if someone would bring this up in an interview with Mike Schur (hint, hint.)
