We may have said in our flyover description that the pros are 'back' but they're not really back individually, they're back as a category.  This isn't a 'best of' "Masters" which would bring back old chefs, but rather a regular "Masters."  That means that we're going to once more have pros in the "Top Chef" kitchen (hence the 'back') but they're not going to be the same pros (hence the 'not really back').  In any case, watch some of the best chefs in the country prove that they truly are the "Top Chef" as season four of "Top Chef Masters" gets cooking tonight.

We don't quite understand how it will work, but there is an online component to this year's "Top Chef Masters."  It deals with the sous chefs for the masters competing (online) and having that competition directly affect what happens with the masters themselves.  We can't say that we quite understand how it all works, but we are sure that once we start watching it will all become clear.  That, and Curtis Stone will be present, as host, to explain it if we still don't quite get it.  The judges this time out include Francis Lam, James Oseland, Lesley Suter, and Ruth Reichl.

The final masters on "Top Chef Masters" will be present tonight to master all that is worth mastering and/or to show you just what they have mastered and that which you might master were you to master cooking like a "Top Chef" Master.  Or, put more simply, the "Masters" version of "Top Chef" is finishing its season tonight.  Will the new format the show took for this season return next time around?  Probably they won't tell you that, but we're certainly curious to find out.

Perhaps it is a little odd to refer to the changes to "Top Chef Masters" as a 'new' format.  it may be new to the show, but it is now more similar to the original "Top Chef" than "Masters" has been in the past.  There's no more scale on which to judge the chefs, but rather weekly eliminations.  What will certainly be new this season though are two of the judges Curtis Stone and Ruth Reichl, who join returning judge James Oseland.  Will these changes work for the show or will season four find things returning to the way they used to be?

If you're anything like us, when you think of "Top Chef Masters" you imagine a Time Lord - the second to last of the Time Lords if you follow the current series - learning how to cook really, really well.  While we imagine that the Doctor (even this new kid who is making like he's the Eleventh Doctor) would actually end up besting the Master in this competition as well it's completely irrelevant, this has nothing to do with that.  This is the show that pits world-renowned chefs against each other so that they can win the title of 'Top Chef Master,' a title that will be awarded tonight.
