The X Factor
Dec 19, 2013 08:00 PMTV Network - FOX
Last night, we got the first part of "The X Factor" finale and that means that tonight we get the second part of the finale. It means that we get to know who wins the season tonight. It means that, tomorrow, we can start contemplating what the judging table will look like next year (if there is a next year). But, that last bit is tomorrow. Tonight isn't about that, tonight is about finding the winner and celebrating that. Plus, filler. Sadly, you can probably expect some filler tonight.

Fifth Harmony have prepped their first full-length studio album, "Reflection," featuring Daylight, Joe London, Ricky Reed plus singles "Bo$$" and "Sledgehammer." The group boasts members Ally Brooke Hernandez, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Camila Cabello, and Lauren Jauregui.

Ah, Tuesday night. Normally one doesn't think of "The X Factor" as a Tuesday night series, and with good reason, FOX doesn't have "The X Factor" regularly slotted for Tuesdays. That being said, tonight is not a regularly slotted deal, tonight is a special Tuesday night episode kind of deal. We aren't going to promise you that the episode itself will be a different sort of episode from the norm, but it will be on tonight and we think that's really what counts.

Last night, we got our first taste of the new look "X Factor." Okay, so it's not a hugely new look, but it's a little bit of a new look. What will tonight be? Well, generally speaking, more of what you saw last night, but it won't be exactly the same, now will it. We are still, quite obviously, earlier in the goings-on here this season on "The X Factor," which means that there is a still a whole lot of normalizing the judges have to do before they have everything smoothed out. Tune in tonight and see how it all plays out.

This year we will see returning faces on "The X Factor" and many a new one as well. On pretty much a regular basis we'll see Simon Cowell, Mario Lopez, Demi Lovato, Paulina Rubio, and Kelly Rowland. Plus, there will be a whole lot of contestants. Some of this last group we'll see for one night and some for weeks and weeks and weeks (because someone will eventually win). It all gets started tonight with the third season premiere and then it will continue tomorrow night (and then next week).

We won't say that it's been a long season for us, but it unquestionably has been a long season for some of these contestants (life is moderately easier if you're only in the audience, but only moderately). Tonight, that hard road ends. Yes, it's true, an entirely new hard road will start for the contestants tonight, whether they leave as winners or losers. A third season is on tap for "The X Factor" (figure it'll start next fall), but tonight is the last time you'll see these contestants as contestants on the show. It is a bittersweet night for everyone involved, take a moment or two to look back on what's occurred and to think about where things are headed.

Tomorrow night a winner will be declared on "The X Factor" and that means that you really don't have that many more chances before the finale to decide just who should win. Okay, if we're being honest, tonight is the last night you have before the finale, the last chance to really decide who you think should win (it's no fair deciding as the winner is announced whom you're rooting for). Or, you could tune in tonight to see if Demi Lovato and Britney Spears decide to fight with one another -- we hear people have been waiting all season to see that, so many they'll give it to us tonight.

That is right, as with all singing contest shows, someone gets sent home on a regular basis. Now, we' know what you're thinking -- what makes that special, what makes that worth highlighting? Well, honestly, how would you feel if it was you who got sent home? Wouldn't tonight be special for you? Tonight is special because someone is getting sent home and everyone--everyone--is important. Everyone is special to their family and their friends and you ought to show them the respect that you would want shown you. Yeah, either that or it's just going to be fun to see the next act get sent packing.

People, this is big. This is huge. This is a special, two-hour edition of "The X Factor." Now, we don't want to ruin anything about the episode for you, but we have a sneaking suspicion that at some point on tonight's show, Simon Cowell will get angry at something somebody does. Will it be a singer? Will it be a fellow judge? Will it be a cameraman? We just don't know. What we believe though is that Simon and Gordon Ramsay have a secret contest to see whom can get in more fights on their respective shows. Gordon is, according to our tally, winning, so Simon may try to catch up tonight.

Last night, FOX aired the first premiere of their new season. It was a two-hour episode of a show entitled "The X Factor," it's a music competition series (you may have heard of it). Tonight, FOX will be airing their second premiere of the new season which is, more accurately stated, the second part of their first premiere. Yup, that's right, FOX 's second premiere of the season is also "The X Factor." Will the show be exactly what the network need to get the new season off on the right foot? Is "The X Factor" the x factor?

Okay, so the ratings for "The X Factor" weren't bad (and quite obviously good enough to have the show return for season two), but they weren't what was promised by one Simon Cowell either. Expect to see a number of tweaks tonight as the second season begins, not the least of which are the new set of judges. Let us not even pretend that we remember any of last year's judges and the departures. The judges for this season are Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, and Britney Spears. We wonder if Britney and Demi will be able to tear into the contestants when needed. Well, we'll get our first glimpse tonight.

As we noted with last night's first part of the finale, it does feel like the season took place awfully quickly, especially after it took so long for it to finally begin. It certainly has been nice having Simon Cowell back on our TV after his absence last season on "American Idol." The man is regularly touted as someone people love to hate, but let us say this for him -- he honestly calls things as he sees them without the need for sugarcoating and that's really one of the reasons that this show works. Let's see if he was able to successfully pick tonight's winner.

Wow, it hardly seems possible, but the season finale of "The X Factor" is upon us. Well, tonight is the first part of that finale and tomorrow is the second part, but it still seems awfully fast. "The X Factor" was touted for what honestly felt like forever before actually premiering, which is probably why the season itself felt short, but that's really no longer the point, is it? The point is that we are down to the end, tonight is the final series of performances that count prior to tomorrow night's just-for-fun performances as we wait and wait and wait for the announcement of who actually has won.

There are people out there who will tell you that the reason to watch "The X Factor" tonight is to see who gets voted off. We don't disagree that that's a reason to watch the show, we're just not entirely convinced that that's the reason to watch the show. How can it be the reason when Rihanna is going to be on tonight performing 'We Found Love?' To us, that's a pretty spectacular reason to watch... or is it the pretty spectacular reason to watch? We have, we admit, made ourselves moderately confused about our a's and the's, but let us reiterate, Rihanna is going to be on tonight and she is going to be performing.

As happens every Fall, the MLB playoffs are wreaking havoc with the FOX schedule, but the truth of the matter is, and always will be, that the show must go on. "The X Factor" has to finish its first season before Christmas, and the way that takes place is by airing episodes every single week, even if they're on special nights like tonight. This special night episode though isn't just any old episode, oh no, the finalists are being revealed tonight and that is going to be a pretty big moment. Watch and see if your favorites made the cut.

Before the finalists are revealed (before there are trips to the judges' homes as well), the wanna-be finalists have to go through bootc amp. You know the drill here -- they're going to be forced to wake up at 5:30 in the morning; run 20 miles before breakfast; and do 1,000 pushups prior to lunch while a drill sergeant yells horrific things at them about their hair, clothes, attitude, face, hometown, gut, and general comportment. Eventually, one or two might break and quit the show permanently. Man... we wish. Wouldn't that make this whole boot camp experience that much better? We are sure it will be great as presented, but if it were more hardcore it could be better.

Love him or hate him, you have to say this for Simon Cowell -- he doesn't exactly do stuff small. Anyone expecting a nice, quite, understated premiere last night for "The X Factor" was sorely disappointed (and potentially hugely misguided). The series is continuing with its two-night premiere tonight which means more of what we saw last night, a whole lot more. We will say this -- it's nice to see Simon again, we kind of missed him last year on "Idol."
Sep 21, 2011TV Network - FOX
We have been hearing about "The X Factor" coming to FOX for, we think, 18 months (but maybe more). The anticipation and build up to this new Simon Cowell series has been absolutely massive, but we expect that it will live up to the hype and deliver a large audience. For those of you wondering exactly how the series differs from "American Idol," tonight you'll get to learn whether the answer to that is more than just 'Well, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul are on this one now, not "Idol," plus Pepsi and Chevy sponsor this one, not Coke and Ford.'
