The United States of Tara

Have you ever stopped to consider just how hard it has to be for Toni Collette working on this series? She plays a character, Tara, with dissociative identity disorder. You and I would commonly refer to that condition by its old name, multiple personality disorder, but the upshot of the disorder, whatever you call it, is that Toni Collette is playing a single person who is multiple people. She is, in other words, playing many different parts throughout the show which is not only impressive, but causes us to wonder if she gets paid extra. She deserves to, doesn't she?

Some might call this the season three finale. They would be correct. Some might call this the 36th episode. They would be correct. Some might call this the series finale. They would be correct as well. If over the course of its run "The United States of Tara" has taught us anything it's that it's possible to have more than one identity, more than one personality. We will be sad to see the show end, but we certainly hope that Tara finds some measure of peace and comfort in this episode.
