The Office
"Did I Stutter?" (5/1/08): Though all the members of the Scranton branch had issues with Michael at one time or another, Leslie David Baker's Stanley had by far the least use and patience for Michael over the show's early years. Michael, meanwhile, was too afraid of Stanley to do much about his open contempt - at least until Stanley yells the episode's title phrase at him in the middle of a staff meeting, then responds to Michael's "fake firing" by loudly threatening to sue the company and expose Michael's incompetence to the world. Michael clears the rest of the staff out of the office and finally lays down the law as best he can: Stanley doesn't have to like Michael, nor does he have to respect him, but he at least has to pretend that he does. And Stanley agrees to go along with that. It's a surprisingly firm, professional, nuanced piece of management for Michael, and one that no doubt played a role in Stanley cheerfully participating in Michael's big goodbye moments.
