For a semi-idiot goofball, Michael Scott has certainly gotten his fair share of women over the course of this series.  Oh, some of them have been horrific, but they've existed, and tonight they're going to exist on the same episode.  We don't want to spoil exactly why it is that they all put in an appearance (we do know), but we don't mind telling you that they're all going to be there.  Well, some of them may not be there in terms of the actually being inside the office itself, but they'll be there on the show and that will allow for the funny.

Thus endeth not only Dunder Mifflin, which we think has gone under three times during the course of the show, but also the series itself.  We distinctly remember watching that first season of "The Office" and hoping the show would continue for long time into the future.  Well, it did, and we watched every episode, even the ones we didn't like where they made it out like Pam and Jim weren't going to live happily ever after and Pam had an almost thing with the camera guy.  Tonight, our time with the series is done.  We aren't sure yet where it will wind up in the annals of television history, but tonight, into the annals it goes.

On May 16th, "The Office" will conclude with back-to-back episodes.  Next week, May 9th, the series will air back-to-back episodes in its penultimate week.  Here, this week, we're getting our last single new episode ever.  Don't kid yourself into believing that's not a big thing.  Don't kid yourself into believing that the series didn't capture the cultural zeitgeist for one shining moment in time.  We don't know what the next few weeks of episodes will bring, just that we should all be sitting down to watch them.

We can't tell you that we necessarily approve of some of the things that have happened during this final season of "The Office"--how is it possible for Jim and Pam to have marital issues like they've had--but we are hoping that everything is happening for a reason.  The producers have, assuredly, had their endgame in mind from the beginning of this season and have led us down the path they have because they're building to something, something big and wonderful... we hope.  The series finale is going to be on May 16th, a little more than a month from now, and that means that there isn't a whole lot of new "Office" left.

Plus, Roseanne Barr is on tonight.

We having been enjoying this final season of "The Office," and we figure that we're going to enjoy ourselves tonight when David Wallace and Mose both appear.  Now, these appearances have something to do with Wallace getting Dwight to hire a salesman and Dwight taking the task seriously.  But, as we've said before about other things, the reasons for the appearances matter less to us than the appearances themselves.  There aren't that many episodes of "The Office" left and between that fact and reappearance of some old friends, tonight's episode is worth watching.

There is a series finale coming.  Can you feel it?  It is just over the horizon, somewhere off in the distance.  Will it find Jim and Pam moving with Jim's start-up venture being a success?  Will it see that Dwight spinoff actually come to fruition?  Will Andy hook up with Nelly, dumping Erin forever?  There are so many questions we have about what is going to go down this season, and the only way to find out is to watch.  Tonight, the party planning committee fails in its job and everyone celebrates Christmas the Schrute way.

As you well know, Andy's family has a ton of money.  That cash has influenced who Andy Bernard is to an incredible degree.  But, what if Andy's family didn't have money?  That question is going to be answered tonight... and Josh Groban returns for the storyline.  Plus, in an entirely separate plot, Jack Coleman comes back as Angela's love.  Or, maybe we have that wrong.  The state senator loves Oscar, doesn't he?  Kind of looked like it a couple of weeks back.  Angela.  Oscar.  Angela.  Oscar.  Mother.  Sister.  Mother.  Sister.  Forget about it reader, it's "The Office."

Last year was something of a transition year for "The Office."  Yes, Michael Scott didn't leave in the last episode of the previous year's season, but last year was the first fully Michael Scott free season.  The show didn't always do a great job of redefining itself without him, but some episodes definitely fired on all cylinders.  Will the new season start off strong?  Will Andy's takeover attempt really have paid off?  How is it that onetime "Doctor Who" companion Catherine Tate will be returning?  Eh, as long as it's a half-plausible notion we'll take it -- she's funny.

Tonight marks the end of first full post-Carell season of "The Office."  We think it's terribly fair to say that there have been ups and downs this season (we have particularly enjoyed Catherine Tate's presence).  What will next season (should there be a next season) bring?  Well, we do know that it won't have James Spader, but that's about it.  But, next season is a discussion for another time, tonight, let us just celebrate the eighth season finale.

Jack Coleman has been portraying State Senator Rob Lipton on "The Office," or just 'The Senator' if you go by what Angela says.  Actually, no matter what you call him, he hasn't been on the show for a while.  Well, that drought ends tonight -- HRG is back on TV as SSRL (that last one is 'State Senator Rob Lipton').  We greatly look forward his return and hope that his cheerleading daughter is somewhere waiting in the wings so she can swoop in and save the day should it prove necessary.

We humbly ask you -- how long will Catherine Tate be appearing on "The Office?"  She did one episode last year and has had a major arc this winter/spring, but can the good times possibly continue forever?  We highly doubt that they can.  Listen, we don't know when Catherine Tate's final episode on the show will be, but what we do know is that it would be a major mistake to miss any episodes with her.  And, if you need added incentive, Sendhil Ramamurthty is going to be on tonight as well.  That would be two (count'em, two) guest stars in the single half-hour.

Catherine Tate (or Donna Noble if you're down with the Whoniverse) was on an episode of "The Office" last season, in fact, she was on the episode where they were interviewing all the candidates to replace Michael.  Well, she's back tonight!  Apparently, much like Robert California, her character did in fact end up with a nice job at the company, even if it wasn't the manager of the Scranton branch (though, apparently, Robert held that title briefly, right?).  We have been informed that good old Dwight Schrute will be interacting with her quite a bit, and honestly, we love it when Dwight interacts with anyone new.

Have you ever wondered who would be married to Robert California?  There is, after all, a chance that he could be married to a supermodel -- he's such a great salesman that if he simply got the opportunity to sit down with a supermodel he could probably convince her to be his wife (maybe he could call Salma Hayek for us... we love her).  Well, tonight, we meet Robert's wife and she is being played by Maura Tierney which, let's face it, is pretty awesome, and really probably a better choice than a supermodel.

We are not entirely sure that "The Office" hit any creative high water marks this year, but we are sure that they put a lot of thought and effort into the departure of Michael Scott.  Precisely where the series will go next season is not something that we can, at this moment, successfully speculate on (perhaps wiser minds than ours are able).  However, we do hope to get a glimpse at that future tonight on the hour-long season finale.  There is still, we think, a lot of story left to tell at Dunder Mifflin and we're excited to see what that story may be.

This is it, he moment we've all been waiting for (either with dread or massive anticipation).  Tonight is the night that Michael Scott steps out of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch for the last time.  We don't know that he won't continue to be a paper salesman, but he won't be doing it for this Sabre affiliate.  Whether this farewell will tend towards the funny or the schmaltzy we can't say, all we know is that we want Dwight to end up running the show.  Either him or Dabney Coleman's character from "Nine to Five."

We are really coming to the end of Michael Scott's time here on "The Office."  In fact, by our count, this is his second to last episode.  We were partially clued into that because the name of the episode is 'Goodbye, Michael Part 1' and then next week's is 'Goodby, Michael Part 2' and we're figuring that the goodbye will actually be a goodbye.  In a couple of weeks the series going to change dramatically and there is but little time left to soak in all the Michael Scott goodness that you possibly can.

As has been widely publicized for something akin to a year now, Steve Carell is leaving "The Office," and with his new engagement, we saw one possible route his departure could take a couple of weeks back.  Well, we're going to keep heading down that route as Michael Scott begins to train his replacement tonight, a nice fellow portrayed by none other than Will Ferrell.  We must admit, we're exceedingly curious to see how Ferrell works with the rest of the cast in this ensemble comedy.

Jack Coleman is just everywhere, isn't he?  The man has been guest-starring on series left and right and is appearing tonight on "The Office" too.  Also appearing will be Kathy Bates (whom we figure is reprising her role as Sabre's CEO because it would be odd to have her do otherwise if she's on).  The plot itself has something to do with that social networking aggregator Ryan has been putting together, but that's less important than the presence of the guest stars, isn't it?  Yes, the guests' characters probably have something to do with the plot, but we still care more for their presence than anything else.

Michael Scott has this odd way of making us into believers.  First we believed that he was wholly incompetent, then we believed that he was semi-incompetent, then we believed that he was mostly incompetent, now we just believe that he's ridiculous and yet how somehow not the worst manager we've ever met (or had).  We also believe that it's great that having Jim as a co-manager hasn't made him any less ridiculous.  Finally, we believe that he'll certainly have some new sort of crazy in store for us on the season finale.

Why is Kathy Bates going to be visiting "The Office" tonight?  An intelligent question, so glad you asked.  We would like to suggest that it is not so much that she's going to be visiting the series - we do not believe that Kathy Bates will be playing Kathy Bates - as she is going to be appearing as a character in the show.  Does that make your question less intelligent than we originally thought?  It might, it just might, but we're not here to place blame.  No, we're here to do our best to write in the circular and obtuse logic often employed by the show itself, and that is, essentially, what she said.
