We feel a little bad for Alicia on "The Good Wife." She unquestionably has some great moments and some really good things happen to her, but can you imagine the stress she constantly endures? We promise you this, if we had to endure the stress Alicia has to endure, we wouldn't look anywhere near as good as Julianna Margulies looks. Seriously, we'd be overweight and bald and hunchbacked and perpetually chugging Pepto in order to assuage our ulcer... and that doesn't even begin to the jitters we'd have to endure. Actually, just about everyone on this show does better than we would. Watch and marvel.

Listen, the truth of the matter is that you shouldn't need a reason to watch "The Good Wife," "The Good Wife" is a regularly enthrallig drama, one which has crafted interesting characters and stories. But, should you need a reason to watch, here are a few (some new, some old) -- Josh Charles is directing tonight's episode, Brian Dennehy is a guest star, Amanda Peet is a guest star, and Maura Tierney is a guest star. Whether you're contemplating the new reasons or the old ones or just the general goodness of the show, surely there's something there that will convince you to tune in.

Tonight does not mark Maura Tierney's first appearance on "The Good Wife." Instead, it marks her first appearance this week on the show. Ah, Maura Tierney. How do you best remember her? Is she Lisa from "NewsRadio" or Abby from "ER?" Do you think of her one-time role on "Parenthood" when you consider the actress (boy, wouldn't that be a different show)? Tonight she's back on "The Good Wife" as Maddie Hayward, so, perhaps, that's how you should think of her today.

Can you imagine cheating on Julianna Margulies? We certainly can't, and that's not just because she's been with George Clooney and we think that's awesome (you do know that characters and the actors who play them are completely indistinguishable in our world, right?). It's also because Alicia is just plain awesome (and more than a little scary at times). Expect to see a whole lot more drama this season; drama of both the legal and the emotional variety. Plus, that guy from "SportsNight" (Dan? Casey?) is still on this show and he's awesome, too.

Back in March (we know, that seems like an awfully long time ago), CBS renewed "The Good Wife" for season four. The truth is that the renewal was not unexpected, the show's ratings are nowhere near bad and it is quite well liked by critics. We highly recommend, despite this being the season finale, that you tune in tonight and see if you're not intrigued by it all. If you are, you then have the opportunity to watch repeats all summer so you can be caught up when season four begins. Begin planning your fall schedule now, people -- networks may not have announced details yet, but it's never to early to figure out what you're going to be watching.

"The Good Wife" seems to be stocking up on guest stars this season. Dylan Baker is returning tonight, Lisa Edelstein is still around, and Donna Brazile is going to be on too. We do like ourselves some Dylan Baker, he always managed to play the evilest sort of evildoers, he's the Wall Street bad guy in a suit who smiles at you while secretly plotting your demise. Then there's Lisa Edelstein, well, she made House drive a car through her living room, so that kind of makes her evil too, doesn't it? Hmmm... maybe they're doing a bad guy thing for Halloween (insert partisan Donna Brazile joke here).

Lisa Edelstein (formerly of that "House" show on some other channel) will be guest-starring tonight on "The Good Wife" as Will's ex, Celeste Serrano. She will also, quite naturally, be the opposing council on the current case. We like how that whole thing works on legal shows with lawyers constantly running into exes who are also lawyers and who are working on the opposite side of the case -- it makes the legal world feel so small and homey. Edelstein has actually signed for a multi-episode arc on "The Good Wife," so expect to see her on the show more than just tonight.

Julianna Margulies is one of those people lucky enough to have earned herself starring roles on not one but two different, successful television series. Whereas on "ER" Margulies was one of an ensemble, here she is the lead in the ensemble. We wonder whether her legal skills helped her make the case for such a role. Oh sure, you think that she is just delivered those great legal arguments from the writers, but we choose to believe that not only is she an incredibly great nurse, but that she is also the legal mind of the century. Hey, it could be true.

Tentatively title 'A New Beginning,' tonight we're getting a 30 minute "Good Wife" special. We can't tell you very much about the special, but we do know that it's airing tonight and, because we're us, we have some hypotheses. The most likely scenario is that it deals with Alicia's marital (or not) relationships. What we're actually hoping though is that they've decided to jettison the entire cast and are sending Alicia to New Zealand this season to muck about down there. This line of thought would suggest that they need this 30 minute special to introduce us to where the season will head.
Okay, that won't happen, but we think it'd be fun.

If you could choose what would happen in this season finale, what would you have it be? Would you have Kelli Giddish come back for another episode? Would you have Alicia and Will contemplate their potential relationship once more? Would you have Alan Cumming turn into Nightcrawler and does his uncanny thing at the office just for his own personal amusement? Some of those things may definitely occur tonight. We're not going to tell you which of the above might happen, but at least one might.

Martha Plimpton plays Patti Nyholm tonight on "The Good Wife," a role that she has appeared in previously and one which she will hopefully appear as again down the line. Nyholm is kind of a nemesis for the law firm, and as legal shows have a tendency to portray the main law firm as a bunch of super legal eagles who rarely drop a case, it's always nice to see them go up against a nemesis, someone who can, potentially, truly derail the firm. We're not saying that's what's going to happen tonight (it won't), just that it would be nice.

Gary Cole is returning to "The Good Wife" and he's bringing some pretty great guest stars with him. We don't actually mean that he drove them to the lot on the day of filming, nor that his character is buds with the other characters and that they're only going to be on the show due to Cole's storyline (we're not venturing any guesses about that). No, we mean that not only will Gary Cole be on this week, but that America Ferrera and Jerry Stiller will be on as well. It's a pretty diverse trio of actors, but all three of them are well worth watching separately, so together they should be even better.

The thing about lawyer shows and cop shows is that they both always require a bunch of guest stars - you've got to have your bad guys, your judges, and your opposing counsels. When used -- and cast -- correctly, these guest stars can be bright shining beacons on an already excellent show. Rita Wilson and F. Murray Abraham will both be putting in appearances on "The Good Wife" this week, and if those two actors are used to the full extent of their abilities you can expect a really great episode of an already award-winning series.

As with everyone else in this universe, we have watched Leelee Sobieski's career with great enthusiasm for the past decade and a half. She has taken on a large number of roles of great diversity and no longer looks like a clone of Helen Hunt. This week she'll be appearing on "The Good Wife" as the girlfriend of a client's son which, most likely, puts her on the wrong side of the aisle in court (and still not looking like a clone of Helen Hunt anymore). Seriously, there were a few years there when you would have sworn that Helen Hunt had been cloned so that a younger version of her could appear on screen. Go back, check the records, see for yourself.

There are probably few actors out there who have had the career and following that Michael J. Fox has managed to garner over the years. Yes, he did have some low points in said career - and we all know about his personal struggles - but there's just something wonderful about seeing him on television. He's guest starring tonight on "The Good Wife" as an attorney opposing Alicia, and that unquestionably makes an already good series a Must Watch event. He's Michael J. Fox, you really don't have a choice, do you?

Last time we saw Lou Dobbs on television, Lou Dobbs was telling us that Lou Dobbs wasn't going to be on television anymore. In fact, Lou Dobbs said on a lot of television shows that Lou Dobbs wasn't going to be on television anymore. Yes, Lou Dobbs probably meant that Lou Dobbs wasn't going to be on "Lou Dobbs" or whatever the name of Lou Dobbs' show was, but that's not the way we took Lou Dobbs' statement. We therefore find it odd that for all that Lou Dobbs talked about Lou Dobbs not being on television, Lou Dobbs is going to be on television again tonight, not on "Lou Dobbs," but on "The Good Wife."

We can't help but feel that this show is kind of mistitled. Is Julianna Margulies character a good wife? We're not so convinced. Oh, they're being ironic, you say? Huh... yeah, our brains can't process that sort of thing. We prefer to think only in a straightforward an honest manner. Quite probably that's why we don't understand any lawyer show, but we digress. This particular lawyer show is returning for even more hilarious hijinx and maybe, just maybe, we'll get to see Margulies nominated for another Emmy when the season finishes.

Is Julianna Margulies' character here truly a good wife? That would, it seems, completely and totally depend on how you define good. She is certainly a good enough wife that she got her show renewed for a second season. She has managed to deliver a whole lot of varied and believable emotions over the course of the first season. She's also been tempted by others, hasn't she? Listen, we're not going to pass judgment on anyone here - that's for you the viewer to do from the comfort of your own couch. Just remember, this is the season finale, so this the last time until the fall that judgment can be passed.

There are those out there who will tell you that this episode is a 'must watch' because a winner is announced in the competition between Cary and Alicia this week. We won't say that's not important or a reason to watch, we're just far more excited about Paige Turco's appearance. The actress, most recently seen on NBC's "Secrets of the Mountain," is going to be Alicia's client this week in a divorce case. Yes, we understand that this doesn't mean that Paige is now available, but we've always had trouble distinguishing between actors and characters.

Some out there may be all excited about the recent turn of events on the series that led to Peter getting out of jail. While that's all well and good, and we wish Peter much happiness, for us, Gary Cole and Alan Cumming appearing on the series is quite possibly better. Why? Well, we've had a thing for Gary Cole ever since he was in "American Gothic" and it only got stronger when he did that "Babylon 5" spinoff thing. As for Cumming, we've been a fan ever since we figured out that he's not Paul Reubens. To see both men together in a single show will please us to no end.

Emmy award winner, and fabulous ER alum, Julianne Margulies stars in this new drama about a woman whose politician husband goes to jail after a sex scandal. She, in turn, must return to the workforce as a defense attorney in order to support her family. However, the cut throat environment of the office causes her to quickly transform herself from scorned wife to tough career woman.
