Often police officers are portrayed in one of three ways - corrupt, purely heroic, and flawed but heroic.  What if the cop is now a former cop and just really kinda immature?  That would be somewhat different right?  Yes, yes, it may fit into that final category above, but that's not the sort of flaw we usually see anyway.  Plus, the guy on this show isn't a cop anymore so we don't know what you're harping about.  What he is now is an unlicensed detective working with his also immature friend.  What could possibly go wrong?

It has been something of a wild season on "Terriers," hasn't it?  Weird things happen on that show; yes, a lot of them are unquestionably funny, but some of the stuff is just plain odd.  Maybe we're crazy - we've been called worse - but we're never quite sure what to expect from an episode.  Personally, we like that in a television show.  There is certainly something to be said for the same exact thing happening every week, but we're variety is the spice of life sort of people.  Did we mention yet that this is the season finale, because it is.
