Well, here we are. The second half of this season of "Survivor" starts tonight. A whole lot of people have been eliminated at this point but, let's face it, a whole lot more are going to have to go before we find a winner. Listen, we know there's a tendency to slack off in your watching as we hit this mid-point in the season -- you understand this season's rules but aren't at the point yet where we've gotten to the final few. Don't let that happen to you, stick with it, tune in tonight and see whose torch Jeff Probst extinguishes.

This new season of "Survivor" is going to offer up a whole lot of returning people. But, it won't be 100% returning folks. In fact, as we understand it, it'll be 50% returning. The other 50% is going to be comprised of loved ones of that first group. So, as an example, Rupert will be on. He has been on before. His loved one, his wife, hasn't been on before. Eventually, should Rupert and his wife make it to the final two, they'll have to compete against each other for the million dollars. That would be anti-climactic. Hopefully the season winds up more exciting than that.

In traditional "Survivor" format, the show is going to give us a two hour finale followed by a one hour reunion. That means that we're getting, as we usually do with "Survivor" finales, three full hours of Jeff Probst "Survivor" goodness. Expect to see wonderful discussions of what took place during the season; what we didn't see; and perhaps we'll even get a glimpse into the mind of what the heck the contestants were thinking when they did x, y, or z. Also, someone will be declared the winner and as interesting as the rest of it might be, it's finding out who won that is really the most important thing.

We remember watching the first season of "Survivor" oh so long ago. It was the summer of 2000 and we had just graduated from college. The gang was planning a trip to Disney World (along the lines of 'you just graduated, what are you going to do now?') and yet there was this compelling new show on television which simply could not be missed (thank goodness for the VCR!). Season two, if we remember correctly, began right after the Giants lost the Super Bowl (but not to the Pats, so it was okay). And now, here we are, Jeff Probst looks a few years older, but the game still requires one to outwit, outplay, and outlast. If you ask us, the ultimate survivor is the TV series itself.
