You might be tempted to believe that having one of the folks from "The Vampire Diaries" on "Supernatural" would mean that the two series were doing some sort of crossover episode, especially as the shows are both supernaturally-based and on the same network. As far as we can tell, this is not a crossover.  On "The Vampire Diaries," Sara Canning plays Jenna Sommers, and here on "Supernatural" she's going to be someone named Lydia.  There is a possibility, of course, that Jenna was Lydia in a past life and has returned or some such nonsense, but we kind of doubt it, we think instead this is a simple guest starring gig, but, for us, that's enough.

We hope that the Winchester boys had a nice vacation.  We hope that they spent their few weeks off somewhere nice and warm and demon free.  We hope that they got a tan, had some drinks served in a coconut and with an umbrella, and met some nice folks.  Tonight, they return to slogging through the mire and much that is their lives.  We appreciate them for doing it as they've saved the world more than once, but we know that it must be tough.  Watch and see their return tonight.

Well, those Winchester brothers are going to get a well deserved rest after tonight.  This is the fall finale for "Supernatural" and what that means is that this is the last episode of the year.  Hence, our saying that the boys are going to get some rest.  Of course, on the other hand, the way this show works, both of the Winchester boys could find themselves resting in the ground until the next new episode and no one (save the baddies) want that... especially Sam and Dean.  Don't they have to deal with enough already?

This is, no joke, season nine of "Supernatural" starts tonight.  Season nine.  Really.  Tell us quite honestly, when you first heard about "Supernatural," did you think there would be a ninth season of the show?  Oh, we don't mean that the concept isn't brilliant or that the actors/prdocuers aren't great at what they do, it is just that sorts of series like these tend not to last nine season (most series don't last until season nine).  So, here's what we think, tune in to tonight's season nine(!) opener, see what's happening with Sam and Dean (those poor guys have been through a lot), and ponder the remarkable run of "Supernatural."

Wow.  Wow, wow, wow.  Can you imagine a world in which we live that has two poor brothers have to face demon after devil after hell spawn after apocalypse after goodness knows what else year after year?  Those Winchester brothers don't have an easy life.  They don't have a good life.  And yet, there they are continually fighting for us.  Fighting for humanity.  Fighting for all of creation.  That fight doesn't end tonight, the boys will be back for a ninth (!) season in the fall, but this particular battle comes to an end tonight.  Unless it's a cliffhanger and something they're going to finish up next year, but you get the point we're trying to make.  Yes?

Felicia Day has been on "Supernatural" before (she plays the hacker Charlie) and if we are lucky, Felicia Day will be on "Supernatural" again at some point in the future.  Listen, does it matter whether she's been on before or whether she's going to be on again?  Yes, probably in the grand scheme of things it does, but the truly important thing at this moment is that she's going to be on the show tonight.  So, all you geeks out there get ready, Felicia Day is on network TV once again tonight.

There is a little part of us that thanks our lucky stars every day that we're not a Winchester.  We admire Sam and Dean for all they do, and while they've had their moments of incredible joy, they've had more than their fair share of horror visited upon them. Sam and Dean may have saved the world (universe) on more than one occasion, but they haven't escape unscathed.  The boys are fighting a whole lot of things, including their own personal demons.  See what the Winchesters have cooking tonight in their first new episode since the beginning of December.

At some point you would think that the producers of "Supernatural" would run out of ideas, that the Winchester brothers would have killed absolutely every baddie in existence.  And yet, that seems to not be the case.  Somehow, the Winchester boys keep finding themselves battling some great new terror, some horrible new evil.  Okay, so they're usually horrible ancient evils, not horrible new ones, but the point remains the same -- they keep on having to fight to save the universe.  Tough for them, great for us (to watch).

Those crazy Winchester boys.  They really haven't had an easy life, have they?  We can't even begin to list here all the various things they've had to deal with on both a professional and personal level (and forget when the professional becomes personal and vice versa).  What more will they go through tonight?  Who knows.  However this season ends, you can bet that it isn't going to go smoothly for Sam and Dean.  Those poor fellows, we really feel for them.  We wouldn't step into their shoes or anything in order to alleviate their problems, but we feel for them.

"Supernatural" is one of those shows which just keeps going and going.  This is the series' seventh season, and while you would think that they would have successfully destroyed all the evil in this world (and in Heaven and Hell), they haven't.  That really isn't their fault though, they truly have been doing absolutely everything they possibly can to make the world a better place, the real issue is that there are just so many bad creatures out there that now how great Sam & Dean are out there jobs, they'll never win the war.  The fall finale is tonight, expect lots of action and some serious awesome.

Do you ever feel like Sam and Dean can't catch a break? Oh sure, they beat up on a ton of baddies, but the baddies have a way of beating up on Sam and Dean as well.  The brothers have had to deal with more than their fair share of hardship through the years and we almost shudder to think what tonight's finale will force upon them.  It's not that we don't think they can take it, we just want the guys to be happy.  Is that too much to ask?  Can't we all just get along?

After last season's Lucifer storyline, neither Heaven nor Hell are going to be right as rain at the beginning of season six.  Of course, Sam and Dean aren't going to be so much right as rain either.  We're not quite sure how to feel about that.  It's possible that the inevitable changes in their relationship this year will provide a new sort of life to the series, but it's also possible that with a change in dynamic the show will lose its momentum.  We're a little scared about the course the series will tread, not as scared as we are about the monsters that have been unleashed following the last season finale, but scared.

Oh sure, "Buffy" may have done the apocalypse every time Sweeps rolled around, but tonight it's "Supernatural" doing it for their season finale.  Things have been building towards this moment all season and it's finally arrived.  Will Sam and Dean save the day or will the world end in some sort of nasty fire and brimstone finale?  We are not going to be placing a bet either way as we think that they could magically find a way out of the fire and brimstone at the beginning of next season should we get the doom and gloom ending here.

Mark Pellegrino (Jacob on "Lost") is going to be returning to "Supernatural" tonight as Lucifer.  What does that mean?  Well, between it being late April and him returning, probably that the endgame is near.  He won't be the only god-like character on the show tonight as several Hindu gods including Kali (played by Rekha Sharma) and Ganesh will be on as well.  We have a feeling that this is all going to be one sticky wicket, you know, what with the coming of the apocalypse and all.  Can the Winchesters save the day?  This isn't the season finale, so the smart money says 'not yet.'

Never let it be said that demons, the devil, and the potential end of the world aren't good for business.  "Supernatural," currently in its fifth season and already renewed for season six, is airing its 100th episode tonight.  Yup, they're heading to triple digits and that puts them in some pretty rarified air.  It's a little ironic (don't you think) that a show which deals with so much potential destruction and various sorts of evil demons would be in rarified air, but in rarified air they are.  Go Sam and Dean!

Michael Shanks will not be playing Dr. Daniel Jackson tonight, but, and we mean this in a completely loving way, he'll always be Daniel Jackson to us.  We like to imagine when he appears tonight on "Supernatural" as a hunter that he's actually still Daniel Jackson and has just traveled through a gate on an undercover mission.  Going with that theory, tonight, Dr. Jackson, it seems, has been training a whole town to kill demons because he knows the Apocalypse is coming.  So, essentially, he's training folks to fight back, which is exactly the sort of thing he's done before.

Zombies - they're not good.  We're not quite sure why anyone would think that the dead returning to life to spend quality time with former loved ones would be good, and yet that's exactly what happens on tonight's "Supernatural."  Are zombies not enough to convince you to watch?  How about Carrie Anne Fleming, because she'll be there too.  No?  How about Carrie Anne Fleming as a zombie?  Plus, let's not forget that this is the first new episode we've gotten in oh-so-long and it's named after a Steve Martin movie ("Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid").  We trust that's enough.

Valentine's Day is nearly here, so what better time is there for the Winchester brothers to hunt down the god of love?  They believe Cupid to have caused some townsfolk to go on a murderous rampage in the name of love.  While that is the sort of thing that we firmly believe Cupid to wholeheartedly enjoy doing, he does claim to be innocent.  Famine, one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, is also present, but doesn't killing over love sound much more Cupid's sort of thing than Famine's?  Our best guess is that maybe Shakespeare was actually right, maybe music be the food of love, and Famine is causing a distinct lack thereof and thus the killing as well.
