People own self-storage units and sometimes, for any number of reasons, these storage units get to be auctioned off. Maybe the owner didn't pay and the goods were ceased, maybe the owner passed away, the reasons are not wholly germane (although they do come up on the show). What is germane is the fact that they get auctioned off and people stand to make--or lose--a whole lot of money depending on the storage unit's unknown contents. It is fascinating how the whole operation works and you can see it unfold tonight in the second season premiere.

"Storage Wars" is one of the series (perhaps the chief series) where people go and bid on storage units they they either haven't ever seen or have only seen for a minute or two. Once they bid and win the unit, they get to go through it all and see just how much it is that they've won. Or, more accurately, what it is that they've won, because they've only won things that they would have to turnaround and sell in order to get money. Back to back episodes launch season six tonight.
