The current crew of the 'Destiny' is still floating along aimlessly in spacing, hoping that their next leap will be the leap home. Well, it's not quite aimless floating is it? The ship knows where it's going even if the crew doesn't. It's not quite leaping either is it? It's more of a hyperspace (or is it supersonic or superlight or FTL?) jump. The fact remains though that the crew is not in control and desperately trying to gain control so that they can get themselves back to Earth, and not just back to Earth in that weird method they have with the stones either - really back to Earth.

This third television series in the "Stargate" franchise pursued a slightly different course than the previous entries. We will not say that the course was a bad one or in any way unwarranted, however, the show will also be the shortest lived of the three. Tonight marks the second season finale as well as the series finale. We're still curious to find out how it all ends and hope that there will be a pretty bow on it, but don't quite believe that we're going to get that sort of conclusion.

Here's the deal - "Stargate Universe" may not have gotten a third season renewal, but that doesn't mean that we have to be grumpy during the run of the final 10 new episodes we'll ever get of the show. Is it sad that this series is going to be, by far, the most short-lived in the "Stargate" franchise? Unquestionably, but at this point there is very little we can do about the cancellation; we can and will certainly hope for a "Peacekeeper Wars"-style movie down the line, but we're not going to mope until it's time to mope and with new episodes still to come, it's not time to mope.

Being out on your own in the universe isn't easy. Being on a ship that takes you where it wants to go not where you want to go is worse. Not truly being alone but rather continually encountering enemies is worse still. Fighting amongst yourselves while being on a ship that takes you where it wants to go as you encounter enemies? Yeah, that might be the worst of all possible scenarios and that, dear friends, is why "Stargate Universe" is so much fun - there's just a ton of bad happening to these people and yet they persevere. Ah humanity, is there anything we can't do?

A whole lot has transpired already on "Stargate Universe" this season (seriously, how many people have gotten left behind on various planets). Consequently, we'd like to suggest that anything can happen in the finale (we've already said as much about other series, but it remains true). Honestly, the one thing we don't think will happen is that the folks on the 'Destiny' will make their way back to Earth tonight. It could happen, hypothetically, but we just don't see it. And, if for some reason they do, we figure that they'll be leaving again right quick come the beginning of season two.
