It has been a long time since we last saw Kara (aka Supergirl) on "Smallville," but she's coming back tonight!  Would you think less of us if we told you that it kind of makes us tingly inside?  No, not in any way other than the fact that we have a feeling that in this version of the Superman story, Supergirl is just way better equipped to deal with super villains than Superman is.  We still kind of object to her being referrred to as a "girl," but have to figure that if she were truly angry about it she'd destroy anyone who used the name.

All we can really say is 'wow.'  People, "Smallville" is coming to an end tonight.  The show has had an incredible 10 season run which dates back to the now defunct WB network and some distinctly less-than-fun early episodes which almost entirely evolved around Clark having trouble with kryptonite doing weird things to the locals.  Those days are long gone though and 10 seasons of episodes have brought some incredibly memorable moments.  Lex Luthor will be back tonight to help close it out once and for all.

As you're well aware, Terence Stamp plays General Zod... wait, sorry, it doesn't matter how many times he's been on "Smallville" as Jor-El, we hear 'Terence Stamp' and we instinctively think of Zod.  He'll be back again (or at least his voice) on tonight's episode.  If you want to see a guest star in the flesh, we promise you that Chris Gauthier will be on, reprising his role as the Toyman.  This is, of course, all to say that the final season parade of returning guest stars continues tonight on "Smallville."

Throughout the course of its run, "Smallville" has shown us a relatively dizzying array of DC Comics characters and just because the series is winding down that doesn't mean they have to stop.  Tonight we get the Blue Beetle's birth in an episode directed by series star, Tom Welling.  Not only that, but Booster Gold will be around too.  That's a pretty good lineup of DC characters in a single episode.  And, for those who really know Blue Beetle history, it would be Jaime Reyes who becomes the Beetle here.

The advantage of creating an alternate universe on a television show is that you can bring back tons of characters who have been killed off or otherwise left the series in relatively plausible ways (plausible outside of the whole alternate universe thing anyway).  Tonight, Papa Kent returns to the series in the aforementioned alternate universe.  What with the way things are different there in that alternate universe we're not entirely sure that his meeting up with Clark again will be entirely a happy occurrence for those two even if it'll thrill us to no end.

Is it special that Martha Kent is going to be back again this week?  Yes.  Is it special that Lionel Luthor will be on again as well?  Yes.  But, it is not for either of those two things that we suggest you watch (although, to be fair, those are pretty good reasons).  No, we're suggesting you watch because videos submitted by fans of "Smallville" will be airing as a part of the show tonight and that is extremely cool.  This series has a devoted fan following and the inclusions of these fan videos is sure to please.  Plus, you can wonder if you could have done better yourself.

It is just amazing, the greatest hits of "Smallville" just keep on coming this season, don't they?  The show is clearly firing on all cylinders this season.  This week, not only do we get Michael Hogan guest starring, we also get the return of Alan Ritchson.  That's right, Aquaman is back.  Let's pretend that his return isn't enough though.  How about we throw this little curve in there too - the episode is being directed by Tom Welling.  Did we not tell you that this has been a pretty fantastic season and that we expect the fun to continue tonight?

OMG!  Lois Lane is going to be on this week, and not just Lois Lane from "Smallville," Lois Lane from "Lois & Clark."  How flipping awesome is that?  If they could have gotten Margot Kidder as well we may well have ended up blowing a gasket, but just Teri Hatcher as a guest star is pretty fantastic (even if she won't be Lois here).  Plus, Granny Goodness and Harriet are going to appear.  How much fun is this week going to be?  How much fun has this whole season been?  We almost want the series to go to season 11.

If you'll forgive us the phraseology, "Smallville" has become quite the expansive series.  The show is hitting episode 200 tonight.  200!  That's an awfully big number for any television series, even if it is all about the young life of Superman, even if said Superman isn't quite so young anymore.  This is, as we'll remind you several times this season, the last year of the show, so expect them to go no holds barred.  We have no idea what Brainiac's goal in showing Clark his past, present, and future may be tonight, but we're excited to find out and hope that it's evil.

Tonight, "Smallville" enters its 10th season and the way we see things, it's time for Clark to either put up or shut up.  Don't give us any malarkey about his sacrificing himself at the end of last season in order to save everyone from Zod, we want more.  We want bigger threats, badder bads, and perhaps an appearance by Nuclear Man or whatever that guy was called in "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." This is the show's last season and that means it's time to pull out all the stops - damn the green Kryptonite, full speed ahead!

Listen, all good things must come to an end, the ninth season of "Smallville" included.  Clark and company need some time off, their batteries are running low and if just a tad of kryptonite were to appear now it may do Clark in permanently.  You don't want that.  We don't want that.  Clark doesn't want that.  Let the man go, let him relax for a little while, let him recenter himself.  He'll be back in the fall, we promise you that.  It's only the season that is ending tonight, not the series.

Technically speaking, this episode doesn't only feature the return of Martha Kent, it also features the return of Perry White.  That's right, Perry White is going to be on, Martha Kent is going to be on, and Clark is still working out exactly how to defeat Zod.  How do all those stories come together?  Do they even come together?  Does it matter?  We tend to think not.  We want to see Martha again.  We want to see Perry again.  We want to see Zod go down.  All those things can take place separately, we're fine with that.

Last time we saw Zatanna Zatara on "Smallville" she was trying to create some new memories with her dead father by bringing the famed magician back to life.  It was supremely uncool.  Zatanna returns tonight doing the oh-so-much more cool thing of attending a comic book convention in Smallville.  She's still grappling with daddy issues as it seems her dear departed father charmed a copy of "Warrior Angel," a copy which will also be at said comic convention.  You know the deal - someone gets charmed and the potential for bad things to happen skyrockets.

The evil Icicle is killing members of the Justice Society of America (not to be confused with the Justice League), and only Clark and company can save the day... if they can save the day.  They are going to be teaming up with Hawkman, Star Girl, and Dr. Fate to try and melt the fiendish plot of Icicle before he feezes all the good that they've done.  In a completely separate (we think) storyline, Pam Grier will be appearing as Amanda Waller, who runs the mysterious (perchance evil?) agency known as Checkmate.  That group has some sort of design on Lois.  There's a lot happening tonight, people, a lot happening, and that's why this is a two-hour episode.

Do you remember the Wonder Twins?  There were in the "Super Friends" cartoon back in the day.  They came with fantastic purple outfits and a monkey named Gleek.  We can't promise you that Gleek is going to be showing up on "Smallville" this week, but Zan (David Gallagher) and Jayna (Allison Scagliotti) certainly will be as they help The Blur fight crime.  Keep those fingers crossed for a shot of the famed monkey.
