The truth is this -- weddings are hugely expensive affairs and 'peak' wedding season lasts longer and longer.  August is here and you can expect 'peak' wedding season to last for another couple of months (perhaps declining for the holidays and then picking up again come late winter?).  Whether or not you're planning a wedding soon, we highly recommend tuning in to a nice Friday evening double dose of "Say Yes to the Dress" as it will show you what brides are wearing these days and just how crazy everyone still gets for their wedding.  Plus, it's fun to watch others stress and plan when you can just sit back and relax.

People are still getting married.  You may find that strange, but it remains as true today as it has been for a goodly long time.  Unfortunately, what also remains true is the fact that people sometimes have difficulty finding great dresses for their weddings.  That is why this show exists -- to help those who need to know what they look good in, what the current fashions are, and how to be their best on their big day.  Season 11 opens tonight.

We love ourselves some "Say Yes to the Dress."  There is something about watching people try on wedding dresses and find the right one and knowing how apoplectic they're going to be when all those wedding bills start coming in that really does it for us.  Weddings have taken on a meaning somewhat larger than, perhaps, they should in relation to the result of the wedding -- people have come to care more about the day than the ever after.  But, after you watch a little "Say Yes to the Dress" you kind of wonder if they're meaning shouldn't grow even larger.

"Say Yes to the Dress" spends its time showing us brides trying on wedding dresses and finding the right ones.  It all shows all the brides loved ones oohing and aahing at the various dresses that the bride tries on... unless the loved ones hat e the dresses and then we see them complaining.  Tonight though "Say Yes" will step outside it's comfort zone and give us a look at 'the big day.'  Tonight's episode is entitled 'The Big Day' and (as we understand it, and we've been wrong before) will focus on 'the big day,' or the day the bride actually gets to wear the dress that she already said yes to.  So, if you've ever wondered if the big day is as special as the dress-finding day, now is your chance to find out.

There is something truly special about picking out your wedding outfit.  We actually distinctly recall having to choose what we would wear for our wedding ceremony -- we were emailed a bunch of choices and had to choose without actually seeing the real deal (it's a long story).  These brides are far more lucky, they are helped by some of the best in the business and virtually without exception end up making choices that are really spectacular.  Watch and see what having the right advice can do.

There is something wonderful about an individual finding the right dress for their wedding.  We don't buy that whole 'most important day of your life' nonsense, but we do absolutely believe that other people think that it is and, what's more, they believe that their dress is the most important thing about the most important day.  We don't need to agree with them to still want them to be happy, and we do want them to be happy (seriously, how does it help us to have other sad).  Thus, watching this show, we can't help but smile as we see people put a big check mark next to their most important item on their most important day.

As has been made abundantly obvious, there is simply nothing more important than choosing the right dress for your wedding.  Frankly, every other element that is a part of the affair is of secondary--or even tertiary--concern.  It is the dress that matters the most -- food will be forgotten, rain will be overlooked, bridesmaids are there solely for the single men present, it is the dress that we all have to be concerned with.  People start dreaming up wedding dresses before they start looking for the man that's going to be opposite them when they wear it.  Watch as folks get to live out their dream on this series.

    Say Yes to the Dress

With all the "Say Yes to the Dress" spinoffs that TLC is currently putting out there, there remains something nice, something special, something different about the original.  We're quite pleased to see the mothership return to TV tonight with a whole new season of finding that perfect fit.  We will say however that we're quite bothered by the title to the show - shouldn't it be "Say 'Yes' to the Dress" as they're actually asking people to say something?  Aren't the quotes around the word "yes" necessary?
