Yes, it is true, before the second season even begins here in the States, it has been confirmed that "Ripper Street" will not be returned for a third.  What does that mean?  You know what that means -- it means that anything can happen, it means that no one is safe, it means that people may die and the show won't have to take it all back in order to get a third season.  Tune in tonight because, whether it's been cancelled or not, there are still a whole lot of mysteries to be solved.

Well, we thought this, the second season finale, was going to be the end of "Ripper Street," but it isn't.  It was announced in February that the show will be back for a third season at some point next year and that means that you can expect a ripping good time down the line.  Now, if we were a different sort of person, we'd tell you that the entire thing  is a conspiracy, a conspiracy to cover up the true identity of Jack the Ripper by cleverly wrapping up fictional tales within the real world as an attempt to obfuscate the issue.  We aren't that sort of person, however.  We are just the sort of person who likes a good detective show and are sad to see tonight's episode end the season.

The time is 1890.  The place is London's East End, a den of inequity and thieves.  Yes, it is Victorian London and as the population looks towards the new century, evil lurks behind doorways and in darkened alleys.

Well, we say that, but evil kind of always lurks, doesn't it?  This is a period police drama starring Matthew MacFadyen, Jerome Flynn, and Adam Rothenberg.  Some of the crimes they investigate are truly heinous, others somewhat less so, but if you're into British drama or crime drama or period drama, you very well may find yourself intrigued.

There will be, airing at some point next year, another eight episodes of "Ripper Street."  That means that should tonight's finale end in some sort of cliffhanger-y goodness, we will get a resolution... eventuall.  Have we ever told you how long we waited to find out what had happened to Matthew Macfadyen after he walked into the water at the end of that season of "MI-6?"  It felt like forever and just made us so sad.  We would love a cliffhanger here, but please not with Macfadyen potentially drowning because he just can't take it all -- it would hit too close to home.
