We know what you're thinking because we were thinking it too -- it's only January and yet "Parenthood" is ending its fourth season.  It makes it something of a sad time and something of a happy time a well... like a wedding.  Like a wedding, a season finale is a big moment for a series/family, it throws everything into stark relief and yet clouds the mind as well (usually that's the open bar).  Will the season finale of "Parenthood" bring a wedding?  Will it bring an open bar?  An illness?  A recovery?  Will there be happiness or sadness?  If we knows "Parenthood," the answer to that last question will be both, but any of the questions before it we won't venture a guess about.

As much as we love "Parenthood," there are things we just don't understand.  Chief among these is how "Parenthood" took a month off for the holidays.  As a parent, we can tell you unequivocally that we didn't get a single second off for the holidays.  In fact, we had to work even harder -- the kids were home and they had this whole 'Oh, it's Christmas, where are our gifts' thing going on.  It was ridiculous.  We, like "Parenthood," wanted a month off.  On the other hand, when they're on, the folks on "Parenthood" have a far more 'interesting' life than we do and so perhaps they deserved the respite.  If you watch, you'll see what we mean.

For tonight's fall finale, Matt Lauria and Ray Romano will both be back.  If our watching the series lately gives us any insight, the presence of Romano is going to mean that Sarah Braverman isn't going to have the easiest of nights.  We really don't get what Sarah sees in Hank, but apparently she sees something.  Is he just another guy that she can 'fix,' or is there more there?  Is Jason Ritter about to go off and do some other TV series and this a great way for him to exit?  We hope not, we like Mark and Sarah together.  Tune in tonight and see what happens.

There are many out there who would have suggested that "Parenthood" wasn't going to ever get to season three.  We can understand where those folks are coming, but what they forget is this -- "Parenthood" is about family, and family means no one gets left behind.  Yes, that may be based on a Disney movie, but it's true -- the basic idea is that nothing is tougher than family, nothing is stronger than family, and where does that come from?  From the parents of course.  It is all about the parents and parenthood.  "Parenthood," it's back.

Wow, we feel like we've been sent to our room for bad behavior like not eating our broccoli or getting a 'C' on our math test or getting a girl or six pregnant all while smoking a doobie and shooting up whatever it is that someone shoots up.  Tonight is the third season final of "Parenthood" and, we'll admit it, we would be perfectly happy to act out if it meant that we'd get more attention from this drama.  We may have had our doubts about a series based on the movie even though it had nothing to do with the movie, but over the course of three years we've been more than convinced of the greatness of the show and have our fingers crossed about a fourth season.

If you watch "Parenthood" you know that starting last season, John Corbett has been playing Sarah's ex and the mother of her two children (it was Darin Heames in the pilot episode).  Well, Corbett is reprising the role that was made his last season, returning as not-too-dear-old dad tonight.  We'll also be getting Jason Ritter back tonight which ought to mean a serious disruption for Sarah's love life.  We hope that she remembers that if things don't work out for her with either Corbett or Ritter's characters, we're available... or would be for her.

No, really, NBC renewed "Parenthood" for a third season and we are simply over the moon about it.  We love our "Parenthood," the show speaks to us in a much more realistic way than Samuel L. Jackson reading that faux children story about going to sleep (or not going to sleep as the case may be).  We don't dislike Mr. Jackson in any way, but this particular series has a caring heart and soul in a way that the reading of the book does not.  This series portrays the struggles with parenting in a manner to which we can relate.  Plus, we like that guy from "Sports Night."

Both Richard Dreyfuss and Michael B. Jordan will be present tonight for "Parenthood"'s second season finale.  The show has, undoubtedly had ups and downs this second season, and virtually all the characters have had interesting plots swirling around them (we would be hard-pressed to choose our favorite) and we're quite curious how the entire thing will wrap up for the year.  With Dreyfuss and Jordan present we know two of the plots we'll see tonight, but we don't know what will happen within them.

If you've been watching "Parenthood," you know that Sarah's ex-husband (played by John Corbett) has recently resurfaced in her life (as well as their kids' lives).  Well, naturally that's led Sarah to asomething of a reassessment about hwere she is and where she may be going.  Jason Ritter will be back on the show tonight as Mark Cyr, Amber's teacher who had a short-lived thing with Sarah last season on the show.  You may not have known it was Jason Ritter at that point because he wasn't starring in "The Event" yet, but it was.

John Corbett is going to be on the series tonight as Sarah's ex.  Fans of the series will recognize that Corbett did not play the character in the series premiere, but since when has a network opted to not recast a role when it turns from a small moment to a multi-episode arc?  We do wonder whether they'll go back and refilm those sequences from the first episode for continuities sake, but kind of doubt that they will (but wouldn't it be cool if they bought back all those season one DVDs and gave people new ones).

We all know who Michael Jordan is, but are you aware of who Michael B. Jordan is?  As far as we know, there's actually no relation between the two men.  We can tell you for a certainty that Michael B. is an actor who joined the cast of "Friday Night Lights" last season where he plays Vince Howard.  He's also been on "All My Children" and "The Wire."  That is to say, he may be new to you, but he's not exactly new, you may have even noticed him on the last new episode (but that was a busy week which is why we're suggesting you watch this week). Also appearing tonight on the show will be one of the Baldwins... let's say William as he's had a recurring role on the show this season so it would make some sense for him to be back.

Okay, fine, maybe the Bravermans aren't returning for a whole new season, but it will be a mostly new season.  We mean, there will unquestionably be some sort of holdover from last season, but the episodes you see this season will be new.  Think about it, if the series just completely jettisoned all that happened in season one, you wouldn't be all too pleased tuning into season two.  Yes, there was probably some stuff you didn't like about the first season, but to completely eliminate it from our collective consciousness (or ignore it) wouldn't be right either, would it?

Being a parent isn't the easiest task in the world.  Just take a look at the Braverman family on this new NBC show.  The Braverman kids are all grown up and have kids of their own.  However, they are still struggling to do their best and find their way in the world.  Though they are not always successful at that task, they do have their family around to support them in their struggles.  Wait... is that a good thing?

This new series features a good cast and is based on some solid source material.  Will it fare better than the other "Parenthood" television series that was based on the same movie?  Watch and find out.
