The season is ending tonight on "One Tree Hill" and that can mean only thing -- after tonight there will be no new episodes for months.  Everything else is pretty much fair game, isn't it?  People can go away and never come back, new people can come and destroy everything that we've come to know and accept about the series, places which once vanished can be reborn.  People, this is season finale of a long-running television series and that means you can expect the unexpected.

Tonight, with a two-hour party that will include a whole cast interview/retrospective aspect, "One Tree Hill" airs its series finale.  Sure, the faces aren't all the same ones who were there at the beginning, but that mirrors life itself.  Life, to paraphrase Kermit the Frog's Bob Cratchit, is full of meetings and partings, that is the way of it (he then goes on to talk about a first parting among them, but that's not relevant here).  The world will be, at least a little, different without "One Tree Hill" on the air.  Tonight though we choose not to think of that, tonight we choose to remember the good times and happiness.

"One Tree Hill" is returning for one final outing. This ninth season of the show is going to have 13 episodes, with the first of those 13 staring tonight. Hopefully, with the show knowing that this is its last song, we'll get some great last looks at the characters we have come to know and love as well as a brief glimpse of what the future may hold for them even if we don't get to see that future itself.  We also hope that we get more than just one last self-congratulatory lap though, we hope that we get some truly interesting new twists and turns before the final goodbyes are said.

We know that you're aware that Austin Nichols is an actor (he is, after all, a star on "One Tree Hill."), but did you know that he was on the U.S. Junior Water Ski Team back in 1997?  Well, he was, so add that to your mental resume for Nichols.  And now you can also add director too as Austin Nichols is directing tonight's episode of "One Tree Hill," an episode that may just also feature the birth of a child (or it may not, we don't want to give anything away).

You know what we like?  We like to see actors and actresses branch out, we like to see them leave their comfort zone and prove that they have more than good looks, acting ability, and charisma.  We like to see that they can direct too.  Bethany Joy Galeotti has proven on more than one occasion that she can direct an episode of "One Tree Hill" and she's going to prove it again tonight.  Tune in, sit back, and remember every time you see her on screen that she's behind the camera as well (she's apparently a superhero).

This isn't the first time James Lafferty has directed an episode of "One Tree Hill" (truth be told, it isn't the second either, it's the third), but that doesn't mean that it's not an interesting experience for both the audience and the actor.  Will Lafferty manage to do what he needs to do well both in front of and behind the camera?  Will he be able to put his own personal stamp on the episode?  Will his role be cut this week because he has to be behind the camera?  How will this episode compare to those other two shots at it?  Watch and see.

Do you want to feel old?  Are you sure?  Well then, try this on for size - this is the eighth season premiere of "One Tree Hill."  Yup, this is the beginning of the show's eighth season.  If you were 13 when the show started you can now legally buy alcohol.  If you were eight when it began many states would now issue you a driver's license.  There's even a decent chance that if you were freshman in college you've now graduated.  At least the folks on the show have aged as well, it would be kind of depressing if they were all teenagers still.  Watch and enjoy a whole new season of "One Tree Hill" fun starting tonight.

We find it moderately difficult to believe that "One Tree Hill" has been on the air for a full seven seasons.  Up until tonight we were able to take some solace in the fact that the show hadn't actually really been on for seven seasons, it was still in the midst of its seventh season; its seventh season wasn't yet completed and therefore it had only been on for six seasons and change.  We no longer have that quantum of solace for tonight is the seventh season finale of "One Tree Hill"  - the show has indeed been on for a full seven seasons and we are, we must admit, old.

It has been a little more than two months since the last new episode of "One Tree Hill," and that, we believe, is quite long enough to go without fresh episodes.  Seriously, how long are we expected to not have new episodes of the series?  Two months!  Ridiculous!  Unacceptable!  Ludicrous!  We refuse to ever go that long again!  Wait... what was that you said?  'Summer hiatus?'  Months without the series?!?!  We'll just have to suck in all the "One Tree Hill" goodness we can in the next few weeks and suggest you do the same.

Bethany Joy Galeotti has been a star on "One Tree Hill" for goodness knows how long.  She even, once upon a time, got the chance to direct an episode.  Well, that once upon a time has turned into twice upon a time, because she's directing tonight's show as well.  She'll also be in the episode as Nathan will be trying to help her and Jamie with the whole Lydia thing.  Thus, she'll manage to be in two places at once this week - both in front of and behind the camera - which must mean that she can run way faster than we ever figured.
