Once Upon a Time

Cinderelly, Cinderelly, all we hear is Cinderelly. Now, while we hear her, we haven't seen here in the first three episodes of "Once Upon a Time." Tonight, that changes. Jessy Schram will appear on tonight's episode as the owner of the castle at Disney World. Well, it's actually her father-in-law's castle, isn't it? But, it's always referred to as Cinderella's Castle. The important thing to note though is that Cinderella is going to appear in the episode and that she's going to be played by Jess Schram (whom you may have seen on "Falling Skies"). We have to wonder if they're going to be able to get by with a single appearance for the famous princess -- the kids do love their Cinderella.

Emma is going to be having some issues with her powers tonight. Technically, according to the episode description, they're going to "run amok." Perhaps more importantly, tonight we're getting both parts of a two part episode. That is right, there will be not just one hour of "Once Upon a Time," but two full hours. Let it go? We think not, we're here to stay (the cold never bothered us anyway).

As has been highly publicized, some of the "Frozen" characters are going to be hitting "Once Upon a Time" this year. We don't know just how those characters are going to influence the ongoing stories we've seen on the series, but we are quite curious to see. Additionally, we're really curious about whether or not Olaf is going to make an appearance and just how they would pull off such a thing. Fingers crossed, because we totally want to build a snowman.
Tonight we're getting the premiere and a preview special.

For this back-half of season three, "Once Upon a Time" has done a whole Wicked Witch thing. We believe that said particular storyline will end tonight with back-to-back episodes, but one wonders if we'll also get a look at what the next season might offer. A fourth season renewal was announced towards the end of last week, so we can promise you that there will be more to come, but obviously this was filmed before that renewal arrived.

We have contemplated using this space to catch you up on the series to this point and all that's gone down, but the truth is this -- we can't possibly begin to relate everything that's happened through the two-and-a-half seasons that have aired to this point. All we can do is say that they've offered up some truly interesting ideas, truly interesting notions, and seem to have had fun doing it. Tonight, a fresh batch of episodes start up and that means, hopefully, we'll get a "previously on" large enough to clue in new viewers (and refresh those of us whose minds aren't what they once were).

With this episode, "Once Upon a Time" closes its second season. With this episode, "Once Upon a Time" finishes another chapter. With this episode... yeah, generally speaking, things are going to happen and we're going to get a vague hint at what the beginning of season three might offer. We don't know with great certainty what any of those elements might be, but we know it will happen. What we hope is that it closes with an 'and they all lived happily ever after' and that next season then is all about them living happily ever after and what that means.

Tonight we are getting an hour-long special all about "Once Upon a Time." It is our understanding that the special will focus on catching us up on the story in similar fashion to the eight million catch-up specials "Lost" aired and the one that "Once Upon a Time" aired before the start of the second season. But, however many of these things may air for various series, the truth is this -- our memory wasn't what it once was and these specials help us to recall just what has gone down.

Here's the thing about fairy tales -- they just keep on trucking. You would think you've killed them off, put them to rest, you've closed the book on them; but you haven't, they just keep on coming back. Like tonight, after more than a month of weeks off and repeats and not getting your "Once Upon a Time" on, the series returns with new episodes. New episodes to make you laugh. New episodes to make you cry. New episodes to make you believe in fairy tales and the powers they have in the real world. Or just to wonder at all the green screen work.

Once upon a time there was a television series which focused terribly heavily upon reinventing various fairy tale figures. It gave us their back stories in fairy tale-land and then showed us their present days lives in a small but none-too-sleepy town. There was a precocious child and a wanderer at the show's center as well as the youngest wife from "Big Love." And now, we get the chance to reopen that book, to find out what happens next, to learn if the Evil Queen can be stopped. The show's name? "Once Upon a Time," naturally. Before this premiere episode, there is an hour-long recap at 7pm.

Ah Storybrooke, that lovely New England town that is like something out of a story book. We have spent the season learning all about its inhabitants and their 'real' nature -- you know, their fairytale nature. We can't say that we've been entirely in love with the way in which the various characters have always been depicted, but we have been hugely intrigued by much of what we've seen. We're hoping for a massive blowout of an episode tonight, the kind where things truly become unhinged (unbound?).

Alan Dale has appeared on "Once Upon a Time" before--we think it was a Sunday--and he's returning tonight. Now, if you don't remember whom he plays, we're happy to tell you -- he's King George. Well, actually, the way we see it, he's this ultra-rich dude named Charles Widmore who has a sneaking suspicion that fairy land holds the key to everything that could ever make him happy and consequently he's jumped into the sideways world in order to claim fairy land for himself. But, that may be expanding the "Lost" mythology just a little too much. Then again... who knows what was really happening on that show (we haven't yet bought the finale).
