  At some point, one presumes, Jess will stop being the new girl and they'll have to retitle this series.  We can't quite tell you how much we're looking forward to the 12th season of the show where they start calling it "Distinctly Middle-Aged Girl" and then the 17th season where it becomes the "Distinguished Looking Somewhere Above Middle-Aged Woman."  We think that until season 17 they won't go with 'woman,' but please, tell us what you think?  How old does Jess have to be before they properly title her?

  Tonight's episode of "New Girl" is entitled 'First Date.'  Now, as intriguing as that title is, what we care more about at this very moment is the fact that it is a new episode on a special night.  Please listen as we say this again -- today may be Thursday, but there is a new episode of "New Girl" anyway.  That is twice the new tonight.  Wait, no it isn't, it's thrice the new, isn't it?  New night.  New episode.  "New Girl."  Yup, thrice the new.  Four times if you count the whole dating thing, but let's not get bogged down in specifics, let's just watch.  Okay?

  Is it just us, or do you kind of want to be Nick?  We totally want to be Nick, and not just because we have a huge crush on Olivia Munn.  We totally have a huge crush on Olivia Munn, but we like Nick for so many other reasons... from his ability to 'fancy fix' plumbing (or not) and working in a bar and his zombie novel, there's just so much to love about him.  As for that will they-won't they thing with Nick and Jess, we're not going to venture an opinion quite yet.  It could be good for the show, but it might negate the possible reappearance of Olivia Munn.

  There are certain things which we remember quite clearly about the first season of "New Girl."  Amongst said things is the fact that there was a Thanksgiving episode.  We don't remember what exactly happened in the Thanksgiving episode, merely that there was one and that we laughed during it.  We are relatively convinced that we're going to laugh again tonight at the second Thanksgiving episode for the series, an episode which is cleverly entitled 'Thanksgiving 2,' and no, that's not why remember there was a Thanksgiving episode last year... okay, it totally is.  Still, tonight will be funny.

  Do you know how it is regularly assumed that women were 'provocative' outfits on "Halloween?"  Well, we think that Schmidt is probably going to put all such 'provocative' outfits to shame tonight on "New Girl."  He'll probably also end up putting a lot of money into his jar (we assume that he's required to do that even when we don't see it occur).  But, what most interests us tonight on the show is what Nick thinks about the holiday.  We don't know if it's a good thing, but we kind of think that we're Nick, at least with the old guy crotchetiness and all.

  There are, from time to time, weird things one notes about television schedules.  Case in point, "New Girl" tonight.  There is an episode at 8:00, which, we're told, is a 'special all-new episode,' and then there is an episode at 9:00 which is the 'season premiere.'  See, to us, that's odd.  It isn't quite as odd as a ridiculously attractive woman falling in love with Schmidt, but it's odd.  Seriously, how could Cece fall for Schmidt?  Why didn't she fall for us?  We love Cece and don't want to see her wasting her time with that guy... well, no, maybe we do, it's kind of an awesome storyline.

  New Girl

  "New Girl" has already been renewed for a sophomore season and what we really want to know if during said season they're going to change the show's name.  On the pro side is the notion that Jess isn't the new girl anymore, she's the girl that's been there for a year (and plenty of other girls have come and gone).  On the con side is the idea that even "Cougar Town" didn't change its name.  We kind of like the thought of the show becoming the "Sophomore Girl," but we just don't see it happening.  But, that's all for next year, tonight is just the season finale.

  On "New Girl," Jess has been dating Russell and Russell has an ex-wife.  Last week we met said ex-wife who comes in the form of Jeanne Tripplehorn (whereas Russell comes in the form of Dermot Mulroney).  Now, Russell wasn't on last week, but he is this week and the ex-wife, Ouli, is too.  Then, you thrown in an appearance by Kali Hawk ("Bridesmaids") and you're pretty much good to go.  "New Girl" has been firing on all cylinders as of late and there's absolutely no reason to think that this guest-star laden episode won't work brilliantly as well.

  Okay, so Jess (Zooey Deschanel) is the 'new girl' on "New Girl," but technically Lake Bell is also kind of the 'new girl' on "New Girl" tonight as she is guest starring this week and she's new on the show.  We don't believe that Zooey ought to at all be concerned about her position on the series, but we would understand if she had a moment wondering if Bell's new girl would out new girl her new girl.  Let's face it, the odds are really and truly against that happening, but how can anyone not have just a moment of panic when there's a new girl on the show "New Girl" that isn't the former new girl of "New Girl."

  With Emily already having a hugely successful FOX series ("Bones"), her younger sister Zooey will now also be joining the network.  No doubt you've seen about a million promos for "New Girl" this summer, and if the show itself works half as well as the 'It's Jess!' promos do the first 100,000 times, FOX could have a major hit on their hands.  If, on the other hand, the series plays out as well as the other 900,000 times you've seen the promo, maybe it won't be quite as big a series.
