MTV Video Music Awards

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez at last year's VMAs

MTV Video Music Awards 2014

Aug 24, 2014

If it's the last Sunday before Labor Day Weekend, not only is it, sadly, the end of summer, but it is also time for the MTV Video Music Awards.  That at least is a very good thing.

People, this is it.  This is the Moon Man statue, this is the point of it all.  After all, if video killed the radio star, shouldn't the video be something truly spectacular, something Fatboy Slim "Weapon of Choice" good? Tune in tonight as MTV highlights the absolute best the music video world has to offer this year.  As always, the show promises loads of great performances and tons of fun.

For the first time ever, mostly because it didn't exist until recently, the MTV Video Music Awards are going to be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  MTV has told us that this marks the first time that a "major annual award show" will take place in the borough.

The VMAs highlight the best music videos of the past year and offer loads of great songs and appearances.  Expect Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake to all be present.

The MTV Moonman statue is, let's face it, pretty excellent.  The Moonman honors all that is great about music videos.  Expect to see tons of great performances tonight including ones by Alicia Keys and One Direction.  The nominees were announced back on July 31 and that means that there has been a whole lot of time for you to have voted and filled out your entry in the office pool (don't pretend like you don't have one, it's okay, we won't tell).  Among the nominees are the likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Watch the Throne, and Drake.
