MTV Movie Awards
Apr 14, 2013
Tonight, as has become an annual event, MTV will be presenting their movie awards. In past years, the Movie Awards were held in June, but they have been moved to April here in 2013. Of course, just because the event is moving by a couple of months it doesn't mean that the awards show, or the awards themselves, will lose any of their irreverent nature. And remember, with the last "Twilight" movie having been released this past November, this is the last time that the franchise can be honored.
Rebel Wilson hosts the event.

Last year, for the first time, MTV moved their movie awards from June to April. It was such a success that they've opted to go that way again, and the 2014 version of the awards will stick with an April date. Now, we don't want to say that they're going to have bad luck with the choice, but they have chosen the 13th as the day for the fete. Conan O'Brien is going to be hosting the show this year and will be bringing the funny with him.

There is but one movie awards show which offers up such diverse categories as “Movie of the Year,” “Best Kiss,” “Best Scared-As-S**t Moment,” “Best Musical Moment,” “#WTF Moment,” “Best On-Screen Duo,” “Best Fight,” “Best Shirtless Performance." Yes, we are talking about the MTV Movie Awards. The annual awards event will take place in April, but this morning we learn just what films and performances have been nominated. And, do remember, it's you the fans who vote for these awards, so try to take it seriously.

Rebel Wilson is hosting this year's MTV Movie Awards, an event which will take place on April 14th, and tonight he and MTV News' Josh Horowitz will be joining Wilson to announce the nominations. MTV is referring to the nominations reveal as a "Spectacular" which, we assume, means that it will be truly awesome. Following the on-air portion of the reveal, Horowitz will be doing a web stream with guests like JWOWW.
Tonight's announcements begin at 7:58pm eastern.

With the nominations announced back on May 1, we have had a full month to contemplate just who is the 'Best On-Screen Dirt Bag' and who gave the 'Best Gut-Wrenching Performance,' which are just two of this year's new categories ('Best On-Screen Transformation' is another). The MTV Movie Awards regularly proves to be both exciting and rather interesting, though perhaps not a great predictor of the Academy Awards. Tune in to MTV tonight and watch this year's madness unfold live.

Is the "MTV Movie Awards" the oddest movie award show on the planet? We actually couldn't say as we haven't seen every awards show that there is. What we can saw with a fair degree of certainty is that they're one of the weirdest which features a complete list of A-list Hollywood celebrities. Expect them to be just as weird, wacky, wonderful, and insane as ever this year. We can't promise another dance with J. Lo and Les Grossman, but there should be other things to impress instead.

The 2009 edition of this annual MTV tradition will find "Saturday Night Live's" Andy Samberg hosting. In the show's 18 years, Eddie Murphy, Sara Jessica Parker, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Silverman, Ben Stiller, Mike Meyers (twice) and Will Smith have hosted at one time or another.
The show has made a name for itself by actually including popular bands as performers (unlike that other fancy smanzy movie awards show), including awards such as Best Kiss and Best Villain and by not taking the movie business so seriously.
Nominees should be announced in the late spring.
