This may not be the first adaptation of James M. Cain's 1941 novel, but it certainly is the newest adaptation. Not only that, but it's also the first HBO miniseries adaptation. Then there's the fact that it's the only one to star Kate Winslet in the title role. Tonight we get parts one and two of the five part series which follows the Depression era woman, her daughter, and the men in her life. With five approximately one-hour episodes it ought to be a relatively thorough examination of the work as well. Plus, while not all of HBO's miniseries are brilliant, the network does have an exceedingly good track record, and this does have a very good cast. Get in on the ground floor tonight.
