The one and only, the inimitable Jimmy Buffett does an excellent song called "Elvis Imitator." Every time we watch this series we can't help but think of Mr. Buffett drinking a margarita, eating a cheeseburger, and complete with a pencil-thin mustache standing there in some sort of a sequined jumpsuit. We are well aware that Mr. Buffett has nothing to do with the series, that it stars Jason Lee as a guy who does do some Elvis, but we think of Mr. Buffett anyway. Him and the guy who sings "Walking in Memphis." We don't know that guy's name, but we do know that he's not Jason Lee either.

"Memphis Beat" is that show with the guy from "My Name is Earl" and some of those Kevin Smith movies along with the woman from the second season of "Desperate Housewives" (the one where the series showed that they would never have a good mystery again after the first season's brilliance) and that first failed Christian Slater television show. Alternatively, "Memphis Beat" is that Memphis cop show where the cop likes to do his Elvis impersonation but not by solving crimes in a sequined jumpsuit (that would be truly awesome).

Last season on "Memphis Beat" we learned all about a cop who cares too much about everyone and every thing, the sort of obsessive type who needs to make sure that he's done his best. Also, he's kind of an Elvis imitator. Not only that, but he looks a whole heck of a lot like that guy from the Kevin Smith movies and "My Name is Earl." Jason Lee and company are back for more crime-solving, Elvis-singing, Memphis-barbecue style fun in season two of "Memphis Beat."
