With the season finale of "Da Vinci's Demons" having aired last week, Starz is trotting out the second season premiere of "Magic City" this week. The show follows a hotelier in 1950s Miami, or at least a televisual version of 1950s Miami where he has to deal with the mob horning in on his action. We can't say whether things like that really happened in Miami back then or whether it just makes for good television. What we can say is that it does indeed make for good television. What exactly will go down on the second season? Things. Things will happen. Things will be said. Feathers, we assure you, will be ruffled.

There is a magic city, a lovely place. It is like the village of Hogsmeade, but bigger. After all, if it weren't bigger, it would be much more a magic village than a magic city. This magic city is Miami roughly 50+ years ago. It is a place of change and mobsters and hope and depression and ritual. Also, while the city may be magic, it really isn't like Hogsmeade at all, there is not actual magic in the Harry Potter expelliarmus/repairo mold but rather in the specialness of it all. The series has not been renewed for a third season, so this is not just the penultimate episode of the season, the penultimate episode ever.

We didn't actually know that Miami was called the 'Magic City.' Well, truth be told, we still don't know it, we just kind of assume it as "Magic City" takes place in Miami. What we do know, and what we're happy to pass along to you, is that this period drama is going to be back during the next television season (probably the 2013 portion of it), so there is going to be more magic in the future. Also, there will be more city in the future. Probably you should not only watch tonight's episode, you should record it as well so that you can refresh your memory down the line about what went down.
