Don Draper and "Mad Men" have taught us many a thing. From the notion of not telling your competitors, even when they're your friends, about pitching to Heinz Ketchup to the advantageous effects of a mid-day drink, "Mad Men" conveys truths. Somewhere amongst these hidden nuggets is the fact that time marches inexorably onwards. The series may have began during the early sixties, but it has progressed, it has moved forward, it has given us a look at a totally different moment. The season, too, marches on. It continues. It continues tonight with a new episode. Number nine in the season six order of 13.

There have been some great episodes of "Mad Men" this season, and there have been some relatively weird ones as well. Come on, that episode back in mid-May where they took those 'vitamin' shots -- that was weird, don't tell us it wasn't. Tonight, we suspect that they won't do something quite so off-kilter, instead, we believe that they'll do something big; something grandiose. Maybe the merger goes south. Maybe everyone quits to start a new agency (again). Maybe, well, maybe people find out the truth about Don Draper's background (this seems the least likely possibility). Whatever it may be that's going to happen, it happens tonight.

If "Mad Men" has taught us one thing about the ad game, it's that you can't rest on your laurels. Once you land a client you need to launch a successful campaign and once you do that you need a follow-up and then you need a new client. The circle goes on and on and on, and so does "Mad Men." It may, from time to time, feel like Don Draper is only treading water (and Roger Sterling not quite treading), but Draper keeps on going. "Mad Men," similarly, keeps on going. As for where it's going, to know that you need to tune in tonight.

The moment you've been waiting for since the last episode of "Mad Men" concluded has finally arrived. Are you excited, because we're excited. We can't wait to see how they get Peggy to stick around as a regular and what's been going on with Betty as of late and how the whole acting thing is going for Megan and whether Roger feels like just saying 'yes' to drugs and what about Pete's issues. Also, we hear that there's this fellow named Don Draper who isn't really named Don Draper at the center of the series and we're dying to know what he's been up to as well. Pour yourself an old fashioned, it's time for "Mad Men."

Don Draper, Don Draper, wherefore art though Don Draper? Come tomorrow we'll know just what happens when light through yonder window breaks and it's actually the sun, not the ad man. Tonight is the "Mad Men" season finale, and as happy as we are that "True Blood" is starting tonight on HBO, it isn't exactly going to fill the void that "Mad Men" is leaving. We wouldn't go through life making the same choices that Don and Roger and everyone else make (Pete least of all), but we love watching them do it every week and hope we don't have to go another 18 months until the next season starts.

Just like you, we have been waiting an exceptionally long time for this to happen. After all that hemming and hawing and contract stuff and delays, "Mad Men," which hasn't been on the air since mid-October of 2010, is back tonight with not one but two new episodes. This is not just a little exciting, it is hugely exciting. This is a big night, a big moment, and we're going to have a big glass of single malt to go with it. We aren't allowed to actually smoke in the house, so probably we'll just chew on the cigar, but no matter, that isn't going to dampen our enthusiasm for the return of "Mad Men" one bit. Don Draper, we are yours!

Wow, watching this season of "Mad Men" really has shown us just why the series has won so many Emmys. There is something about this creation - the actors, the stories that the show tells, something - that really has captured not just a past moment in time, but much about today's world as well. It's been quite the season on "Mad Men" and you should fully expect more revelations, twists, and turns tonight. Remember how great the season finale last year was? Yeah, we're kind of hoping for that sort of awesome again.

There is just something about this show that makes it absolute must watch summer viewing. Could it be the writing? Could it be the acting? Could it be the clothes? The alcohol? The ad game? Don't be foolish, it's the entire package from start to finish. It's mesmerizing. It's tantalizing. It's magical. We were already fans of good single malt scotch, but if we weren't, this show would have put us on that particular road to wonderful. We're not going to start wearing suits on a regular basis, but if anything could convince us to, it would be "Mad Men." As for our hair? Oh yes, we definitely put stuff in it now - you can literally balance a glass of water on it without worry (or having it end up out of place). Cool, right?

Even if we knew, we wouldn't tell you.

With no "True Blood" on Sunday, Sept. 6, viewers have no excuse for not tuning in for the third episode of the third season of AMC's "Mad Men."
The episode is titled "The Arrangements."
AMC doesn't go in for spoilers, but the network says, "Gene and Don cross paths. Peggy is looking for a roommate. A wealthy new client has very high hopes."
Plus, AMC renewed "Mad Men" for a fourth season. Good times!
