Love in the Wild

Jenny McCarthy is being handed the hosting duties for season two of "Love in the Wild." She'll be going, with the contestants, naturally--to the lovely, tropical, Dominican Republic. There, the singles will all hook up (or try to) and have adventures, both aspects of which we'll get to live vicariously. That sounds like fun, we just don't want to live the eliminations vicariously, that's not the sort of thing we want to experience. Honestly though, we just want to do the hosting duties -- that's not easy, but it feels more fun than risking elimination.

There is a moment in the original "Speed" where Sandra Bullock's character talks about how relationships built upon intense experiences never last. This series, however, attempts to prove that axiom wrong. The goal is to put couples together in incredibly intense Dominican Republic-based adventures to see if any of the people form a love connection. People who have been wholly unsuccessful in finding love have been eliminated over the course of the season and by the end of tonight's episode but one couple will be left standing. They will be declared, as you may have surmised, the winners.

With the field of competitors quickly narrowing, the three remaining couples must endure the toughest challenge yet including a scorpion-filled hut and quicksand; a surprise quiz during the Couples' Ceremony catches each team off-guard.

We like to think (and we believe there was a promo or two which agreed with us) of "Love in the Wild" as some sort of fan-diddly-an-tastic experiment, one in which individuals are put into the wild to learn about love (plus they want to win, people always want to win). Whatever you want to call it though, the experiment ends tonight. That's right, no matter what you want to call it, we're going to keep calling it an experiment and our calling it that makes it so. You see, you believe something hard enough -- like that you can go into the wilds of Costa Rica and find love while being filmed -- it makes it true. We read a book that told us as much.
