Louie

A moment from earlier this season on 'Louie'

Next week there will be no new episode of "Louie."  What does that mean for us?  Sadness.  Great sadness.  Actually, it means that we'll probably watch the first half of tonight's episode this week and then finish it up next week.  Yes, that means less "Louie" two weeks in a row, but it also means that we won't have to go a week with no new "Louie" at all.  At least, we won't have to go that long until the season finale hits at the end of next month.  But, that's just too far down the line for us to worry about it at this moment.  Right now we're far more concerned with the lack of new episode next week.  Splitting tonight's episode really does seem like the way to go.

We have reminded you on more than one occasion this season that you need to be watching "Louie," that you ought to be watching "Louie," that watching "Louie" is not only hugely enjoyable experience but quite possibly a patriotic one as well.  We swear to you that this is the last time this season we'll tell you to watch.  We can make that promise in good faith because this is the last episode that is going to air this season.  Watch tonight, because if you don't you'll regret it.  Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

This season of "Louie," as we may have mentioned in the past, is going to be 13 episodes long, and that makes us sad.  It doesn't make us sad because it's more than five episodes long (if it were only five episodes long we'd be really sad), it makes us sad because it's not 27 episodes long.  At 13 episodes, we're about two-thirds of the way through the season, but if the season were 27 episodes long we'd only be one-third of the way through it.  Right now the season is scheduled to end in less than a month (September 20th), but if it were 27 episodes long, it would last through the end of the year (or so).  Watch tonight, because before you know, it's going to be all over.

At this point you're probably asking yourself what else we could tell you about "Louie" that we haven't already said.  After all, as previously mentioned, we've highlighted every single episode in the series' third season as a 'must watch.'  Well, what we'll tell you is this (and we're sure that we've never said it before) -- Louis C.K. is actually an alien who has come to this planet in order to... well, to do something terrible.  There, that's something we haven't told you about, or related to, this series.  It isn't true in any way, he's just a ridiculously funny human being, but we didn't promise to say anything true (although the ridiculously funny bit is true).

Have we highlighted every episode of "Louie" this season as something you must watch?  Yes, we have indeed.  Why?  Because, quite honestly, you must watch every episode.  Seriously, all we're doing is suggesting that you take 30 minutes out of your hectic life to sit back, relax, and watch Louis CK be Louis CK.  We promise that if you give the man a chance you just might find him incredibly amusing, totally enjoyable, and wise beyond his years.  So, with the season hitting the halfway point, perhaps you could throw us a bone and watch the show -- you won't regret it.  We mostly promise.

We are, we are sad to announce, nearly halfway through this season of "Louie."  Technically, next week's episode marks the true halfway point, but we've always been a glass half empty kind of guy and so we're saddened to be this close to to halfway which is a smidge away from all the way.  Plus, if you didn't consider halfway a single moment but an entire portion of the season, there can be no doubt that this is the middle of the third season of "Louie."  Watch tonight, because it's almost all through.

In highlighting last week's "Louie," we contemplated what it might mean for Louie to have a girlfriend, what kind of girl might be able to stand Louie, and what Louie's offspring may think about such an individual (trust us, even if we didn't write all that down, we were totally contemplating it).  Well, that storyline, and consequently our contemplations as well, continue tonight.  We love a good episode of "Louie" and as far as we're concerned, they're all pretty good episodes.  Watch and see what happens as the 'Daddy's Girlfriend' storyline continues this week.

Tonight's episode of "Louie" is entitled 'Daddy's Girlfriend Part 1.'  Now, that tells us a couple of things.  First, it tell us that Louie is looking for love tonight.  Second it tells us that this isn't the only episode we're going to get in which Louie looks for love.  How exactly do you think this whole thing plays out?  Does Louie become a different person when he's looking for love?  We imagine that he must (either that or it probably doesn't go brilliantly).  You know that this is going to be fun to watch, you just know it.

Louis C.K. has that uptight NY-style personality one does not normally associate with Florida in general and Miami in particular (hence it being NY-style, not Florida-in-general-and-Miami-in-particular-style).  Miami has to rub Louie the wrong way and, as always, is kind of why we watch the show, isn't it?  Think about it, if Louis C.K. went through life as a happy go lucky dude who never got wound-up about anything the show wouldn't be terribly much fun to watch, would it?

You might be one of the folks out there thinking that this is a holiday week (and you'd be right) and that because of that everything is a repeat tonight (and there you'd be wrong).  Do you honestly think Louis C.K. takes a week off?  Do you feel like Louis C.K. ever takes time off (and that if he does he's never really relaxing and not coming up with more material)?  No.  Louis C.K. doesn't take time off and "Louie" isn't taking this week off, even with yesterday being a holiday.  Watch tonight, laugh tonight.

As a part of a whole big night of premieres here on "FX," we're getting the premiere of the third season of "Louie," a comedy near and dear to our hearts.  Just like the hero of this show, we regularly find ourselves having to deal with insanity in every day life.  It never ends, does it?  On the plus side, we have Louis C.K. here to make light of that which makes us feel so dark.  The show is a mix of stand-up and scripted stuff (based on Louis C.K.'s stand up), and never fails to make one laugh.

What with the back-to-back episodes we got more than once in the month of August, "Louie" is reaching its season finale slightly earlier than we may have hoped.  It isn't that we haven't gotten a full slate of episodes this season, it's just they have been somewhat compressed.  There are advantages to getting new back-to-back episodes (more laughs in an evening), but there are disadvantages as well (like the season ending tonight instead of later in the month).  So, saddle up and sit back (or something like that), this is the final episode of "Louie" this season.

Next week is the "Louie" season finale, and while that might make some people exceptionally sad (we'll talk about that then), we would like to point out at this moment that "Louie" has already been renewed for a third season.  That's right, no matter what sort of shenanigans occur on the show today, no matter what occurs this week or next week, Louis CK and "Louie" will be back.  So, as we hurtle towards the finale, do keep that little bit of happy news in your back pocket.

We do not actually believe that as the temperature cools off, Louie's frustration, anger, and distress levels decrease, but that doesn't mean that you should take an episode off just because the summer is coming to an end.  This is not the season finale (although that is rapidly approaching), it is, however, the last episode of August (and the next to the last episode in August too).  Honestly though, do you really need a special reason to tune into "Louie," shouldn't his humor and attitude be enough for you?

There are few things which matter in this world quite as much as the whole thing making sense, and we feel as though Louis C.K. helps push that fight to whole new levels.  Oh sure, some of the things that happen to him seem completely improbable and hugely unlikely, but we still see them as a part of his overall commentary on the need for sanity within our world.  In our eyes, Louis C.K. fights the good fight, he fights for what's right and to help us, no matter what it may cost him (like his own sanity) personally.

We are getting back-to-back episodes of "Louie" tonight, and the title of one of them is 'Come on, God.'  Now, we'd like to instantly point out a few things, we take absolutely not stance on the existence (or non-existence) of a deity of any sort.  We are open to many thoughts, possibilities, discussions, and hypotheses on such an existence.  We are merely highlighting this series as a great one to watch because Louis C.K. is an incredibly funny man.  Watch it tonight and you'll note as much for yourself.  And remember, just because he says it, doesn't mean we agree with him.

We like comedies that make you say 'Oh man, that is just so wrong... he's right, he's 100 percent right, but that is just so wrong.'  Louis C.K. understands that, he hears us, he knows where we're coming from and he delivers that sort of comedy here on "Louie."  There is still a month before the second season finale, so there's plenty of time to catch up, tune in, and laugh hysterically.  Might we suggest you begin doing so this evening?

Louis C.K. is back as Louie, that lovable lug who is looking for love and finding distress in the world at large. Louie is a divorced father of two who is, pretty much like the rest of us, just trying to make his way in life.  While we kind of feel bad for him that he doesn't have the easiest time of things, it also makes us really happy because he finds the funny in the world (at least he finds it for us even if he doesn't feel the funny himself).  We fully expect the new season to continue in the same mold as the first, which means that we shouldn't drink anything while watching because we're liable to do a spit take.

Louis C.K. has a very particular brand of humor.  Some would call his jokes moderately on the 'blue' side, and those who don't know what that means very well may be able to figure it out when they hear the language C.K. uses and the subjects that he touches on.  Whether or not you are fans of that type of joke, we would suggest to you that C.K.'s ability to craft the joke, to tell the story, to do his thing, is what makes this show just as highly watchable as it is.  And that, dear friends, may have something to do with why it's been renewed for season two.
