It perhaps feels a little reductive to call this a 'boxing series' as, in the end, while "Lights Out" unquestionably has a whole lot to do with boxing it isn't only about that. No, it's really the tale of a man trying to sort out work and family, trying to find his place in the world, and trying to make sure that he does the best that he can for everyone involved. Plus the boxing, cause there's definitely boxing, we don't want to minimize the boxing what with the boxing gym location and the main character being nicknamed 'Lights' and all, we just don't think that calling this a boxing show gives the series its due.

FX's latest show follows a former boxer who has to figure out what he wants to do with his life in order to support his wife and three kids. He could, on the one hand, try and make a return to the ring. He could also head down the path of 'debt collector' which we imagine involves breaking a few limbs here and there (not that boxing isn't punishing). Neither of those seem like particularly great choices to us, and we don't imagine that they will to our main character either. But, good choices or not, we're expecting a lot of good stories and good storytelling on this FX series.
