TV Network - FXAt this moment we have an incredible desire to tell you how justified you are in your watching of "Justified," that the show is justifiably great, that the series has (more than once) justified its existence. Of course, if we did that you would probably think us completely insane and, guess what, you'd be justified in that opinion. Consequently, we won't do that, making any opinions you have which come down on the side of our not playing with a full deck less than... justified. Oh, wow, we did it, didn't we? We used the word 'justified' repeatedly. Well, the show starts up again tonight. Watch.

We operate under the belief that the hat makes the man, and that makes Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens a cowboy and something of a throwback. We like that about him. It isn't that Givens isn't in the here and now (the series is not set in the Old West), it's that there's something about a man in a cowboy hat that really lets you know where the fellow is coming from. Have we told you this before? Of course we have, but that doesn't make our saying it any less true today than it was then. Tune in tonight and see if Givens is going to put all the baddies either behind bars or underground. We bet he does well, but doesn't completely eliminate evil from the world.

Tonight, Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens is back on the case. Or, perhaps, more accurately he's back on a new case. Wait, that's not right either, we're told that this season the guy is back on an old case, an old cold case (or would that be a cold old case?). Whatever the specifics, the Marshal is back and is going to be on the hunt for baddies. That, after all, is the job of a Deputy US Marshal. Your job is to sit there and watch the Deputy US Marshal do all the hard work. Honestly, you've gotten off pretty easy, you should just accept your fate and tune in.

In March it was announced that "Justified" would indeed return for a fourth season and, as happy as that makes us, we're still up to our eyeballs in the third season. It all ends tonight, but there still an awful lot that we think has to happen before those credits roll. It has been another good season for the series and to focus on what's coming down the line before we get through where we are now would, we think, be a disservice to "Justified," and not a disservice that Givens would take lightly. You don't want to cross Raylan Givens, at least, we don't want to cross him.

Earlier this evening, President Obama spent a good deal of time discussing the state of the union in his State of the Union address. While we espouse no political beliefs one way or the other (outside of recommending us as a write-in candidate for any and all offices), we think that after the annual address a lot of people tend to feel a little bit down (or, at the very least, sleepy). Well, "Justified" is just the sort of show to knock the downness right out of you. It features excellent acting, great characters, and wonderful storytelling. Probably you ought to be watching this show on a weekly basis anyway, but if you're looking to add a little extra oomph to your night following the speech, "Justified" is the way to go.

People, with good reason, love their "Justified." Let's face it, there's a ton to love about the series, from the portrayal of the characters to the acting to the writing to the stories themselves, "Justified" just manages to hit so many of the right notes. And, what's more, the series tends to work beyond the printed page and the on screen depictions of the characters; the series just has a 'feel' to it that really fits. Even though this is the season final and therefore your last chance to see a new episode for a while, we still recommend that you check it out, you won't be sorry.

Season one of "Justified" ended with something of a gun battle. We're not going to get into the whys and wherefores of it all, but know that it ended with a gun battle and that one side won and the other lost. What that means in a show like this is that there is a void to be filled. See, if the good guys won, other bad guys are going to show up to take the first bad guys place, and if the bad guys won, there's no way that the law won't send another Marshal to try and clean up what the first one couldn't. You just watch and see what happens here.

We don't know exactly what is going to happen tonight on "Justified," but we do know that it's the season finale. Not only that, we know that the series has been renewed for a second season and that does have certain implications. The first of those is that whatever happens tonight is not final, you may think someone is dead but they aren't necessarily. Second, anyone can actually die (but check their contract to see if they'll be around next year to confirm). And, third, no matter what, there will be more episodes down the line. We hope that season two will rename the series "Justifiedier."

As much fun as it might be for this show to focus on Samuel Gerard, or at the very least Cosmo Renfro, it doesn't. Instead it's all about one Raylan Givens, who, as his name might hint at, does in fact wear a cowboy hat. There's nothing wrong with that of course, and it's pretty good way for the series to let us know that Givens is an old-school, 19th Century-type lawman. Givens is the kind of guy who gets things done, whether or not his bosses approve. He's the kind of you don't want chasing you if you're a criminal. How do we know all that? The cowboy hat.
