This is, depending on who you are, either incredibly great or incredibly horrible news -- the final season of "Jersey Shore" is premiering tonight. We don't know how many episodes will be a part of this last season nor how long MTV can stretch airing said unknown number of episodes, but we do know that this is the show's last season and if you're on the side of things who view that as bad, you may need to console yourself by watching one of the "Jersey Shore" spinoff series. Either that or send MTV suntan lotion to protest.

After tonight, Thursdays will once again be safe for GTL instead of WTT (watching the tube). Do they still do GTL, they do, don't they? We actually view this series as Brennan does on "Bones" -- it's like an anthropological study. We would never do the Brennan confrontation thing, but we certainly are interested in their methods of exercise, texting, and phrase construction (some would say 'destruction'). We actually feel as though we've gotten somewhere this season with the show and are sad to see the season end. At least we know there are spinoffs coming!

Ummmm.... yeah, so you know what "Jersey Shore" is all about and at this point you know whether you like the series or think that it does in fact symbolize the end of western civilization (not just as we know it, but in its entirety forever and for always). Perhaps you think that it is both (weird, but it's your opinion so we won't tell you that you're wrong). We are not going to make any judgments here about the quality of the series, what we're going to say to you is that the new season starts tonight, and we imagine that they're going to open big.

Okay, all the recap specials, all the true tales, all the extraneous goodies are out of the way, tonight the new season of "Jersey Shore" is really and truly premiering. What does that mean for you? Well, primarily it means that it's safe to be in New Jersey -- the new season takes place in Florence, Italy, not the splendiferous New Jersey coastline. Or not, because we are relatively certain that bars, clubs, and all manner of watering holes on the New Jersey coastline will have MTV blasting the activities of Snooki and company this evening.

For better or for worse (it really all depends on your perspective), "Jersey Shore" is a ridiculously large phenomenon. The show has inspired tours of their hangouts in New Jersey, clothing, and even gotten its cast new shows and speaking engagements at institutions of higher learning. We can't exactly say why the show has struck the chord that it has, all we know is that it has become massively successful. The new season begins next week, but before it starts tune into this hour-long recap special so that you can be fully up to date when it does begin.

When you hear that the second season of "Jersey Shore" is ending, you might, with good cause, become exceptionally nervous. Snooki and the gang live pretty hard, they may not have that many more years ahead of them before they start to look like Jersey's other famous television 'family,' Tony Soprano and his friends. What we can guarantee you though is that "Jersey Shore" will not only eventually return with season three, but that the show will be doing season four as well (for that they're actually going to Italy). Think of the upcoming break as time to recuperate before the insanity begins once more.

Are you one of those people who still can't tell a Situation from a Snooki? It's okay, we've all been there - there is still plenty of time to get on the "Jersey Shore" train before it goes off the rails. We know that some of the cast has been sued for this, that, and the other, but we don't honestly believe that they're getting sued is going to make the show worse. The entire thing is about them doing crazy ridiculous stuff, and the lawsuits only help push the idea that they're doing crazy ridiculous stuff. Plus, any legal squabbles extend the casts' 15 minutes, and that will only help the show too.
