The much anticipated ninth season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" starts tonight, and on a new network as well.  The series used to air on FX, but it no longer does.  Instead, "Sunny" will now air on FXX, a spinoff of parent network FX.  What does this mean to you, the viewer?  Probably you're going to have to adjust your DVR so that the device knows where to find the show, outside of that, very little.  Expect the same sort of irreverent, off-color humor that you're used to from the series, have no fears whatsoever that the jokes won't be hurtful just because the show is on a new network.

We do love ourselves some cable television series.  The biggest issue with face with cable shows, however, is that their seasons are woefully short... woefully.  For instance, tonight is episode six of the eighth season of "It's Always Sunny in Phliadelphia," and that makes it just about the halfway point.  We are, in fact, getting 13 episodes this season which makes the week after next the true halfway point (next week being Thanksgiving and there being no new episode), but it is rapidly approaching and it makes us sad.  Watch tonight and see the funny you've been missing.

No joke, when we wrote out the title of this show, we wrote "It's Always Funny in Philadelphia."  We made that Freudian slip because the show is just about always funny.  It is that 'oh my goodness, I can't believe they said that' sort of funny, but it's funny.  Just think about last season's episode where the gang went to the Jersey Shore (the episode was titled 'The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore' in case you were wondering).  We will bet that if you watched that episode you didn't stop laughing from the time it began to the time it ended (provided that you skipped over the commercials).  The new season begins tonight and with it, the funny.

In the second part of a two part episode, the gang deals with a high school reunion.  Or, at least we figure that's what's happening as the episode is called 'The High School Reunion Part 2:  The Gang's Revenge.'  If there is one thing this group of people is good at (besides screwing up royally) it is almost certainly revenge.  When Sweet Dee and friends decide to hurt someone, Sweet Dee and friends hurt someone.  It might not actually be the person they mean to hurt, but they will hurt someone (we're not saying that the revenge is inflicted on the correct person, just that it's inflicted).

There is so much of this show which is wrong, things that are said which are just plain not right, but that's really why it's so hysterically funny.  While the gang has done wacky things in the past, this season (at some point) the gang is going to produce a children's beauty pageant.  If that doesn't sound like the most brilliant thing ever, we don't know what does.  Oh sure, it'll be fun to watch them go to the Jersey shore, but the children's beauty pageant really sounds like genius.

We promise that our discussion of this finale will in no way focus on there being sun or a lack of sun in Philadelphia.  We have done that far too often in our ruminations on the series and, frankly, it makes us feel quite dismal.  To simply rehash the same thing (or things) over and over again makes us sad.  It makes us blue.  It makes us feel like less than we are (and as it's the holidays we're eating and currently more than we were).  In short, it almost wholly eliminates the sun from our lives, and that is a statement that isn't cheating because we do not currently, nor have we ever, lived in Philadelphia.

Really?  Even without Donovan McNabb?  We mean, sure, it's often sunny in Philadelphia, it could even be sunny on a regular basis, but is it truly always sunny?  Always?  Without McNabb?  Granted, McNabb didn't exactly bring home a trophy for the team, but goodness, his being with the Redskins this year does kind of have to smart, doesn't it?  Surely that's cause for at least a single cloud on the horizon, no?  It might be a cloud with a silver lining, but it's still a cloud, isn't it?  The show may be funny, it may make us laugh, but we don't exactly buy the title.
