Hollywood Game Night
Aug 29, 2013 10:00 PMTV Network - NBC
As everyone knows, this is a long weekend coming up, a glorious Labor Day weekend (which is, ironically, labor free for many of us... that's the kind of irony we enjoy). Why not head into that last day of work (half day if you're lucky) having stayed up with a few friends for a wonderful game night. That is what NBC is offering here -- Jane Lynch hosting a Sean Hayes executive produced series which has A-list celebrities come over and play some wonderful, wonderful games. It can be fun and laid back and just a nice way to get into the long weekend spirit. Plus, this is the season finale.

We have opted to rename, in our minds, "Hollywood Game Night" tonight to "Holiday Game Night." What better way to enter a holiday weekend is there than a wonderful game night amongst friends? We can think of nothing, and "Hollywood Game Night" is really all about celebrating with friends. It is our sincere hope that tonight's episode will be themed towards not having to labor on Monday, but even if it isn't we insist that the episode will be fun.

One of the truly enjoyable things about "Hollywood Game Night" is getting to see the variety of celebrities who appear and who are then seated next to one another. We like to, sometimes, imagine what a dinner party with these folks might actually be. Tonight's celebrities are: Margaret Cho, Scott Wolf, Matthew Morrison, Martha Stewart, Mena Suvari and Curtis Stone. Just imagine what they might all talk about together. And, what they'd talk about with Jane Lynch, who hosts the show.

We have all been a party of a terribly amusing game night -- actually, we specifically quite enjoy a nice "Settlers of Catan" marathon -- and this show allows us to pretend like we're having such a night with celebrities. We quite often imagine playing "Settlers of Catan" with celebrities. We don't think "Catan" is on the menu tonight as watching people play a board game could get dull, but we're going to sit and watch pretending that it is. You should do the same.

For an hour tonight, you'll be able to pretend like you're sitting with your favorite celebrities and playing games with them. Well, okay, you can probably do that any time you want for as long as your heart's content. What we mean to say is that for an hour tonight, "Hollywood Game Night" will be on, and as this is the first new episode in more than a month and the first of what promises to be a summer full of original installments, it's your chance to get into the swing of things. Go forth, watch, and be merry.

Okay, so on January 20th, "Hollywood Game Night" returned and we were all like "It's the start of the winter run of episodes," and now, here we are, tell you that the winter run is over. You know what? When you have two weeks of the Olympics, your schedule gets kind of wonky and that is, we believe, why the winter run of "Game Night" episodes ends today. So, tune in and break out whatever sort of dice/cards/drinks you use during your game nights so that you can play along in the home version.

Two days before Christmas we got a special holiday episode of "Hollywood Game Night." Technically speaking, that may have been the season premiere. But, in spirit, this is the premiere, this is the moment when it really begins. Tune in and watch as Sue Sylvester... wait, that's not right, Jane Lynch hosts celebrities as they play party games akin to the ones executive producer Sean Hayes plays on his real-life game nights. We are getting back-to-back episodes tonight.

One of our favorite moments in "A Christmas Carol" is when Scrooge is looking in on his nephew's house with the Ghost of Christmas Present. Fred is there, with his wife and friends, playing games. We hope that those games are the exact sort of games that we see on "Hollywood Game Night" tonight. The series is returning for a holiday episode, so that would make some snese. Plus, it would be truly awesome.
