Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue on 'Gotham'

Ben McKenzie takes on the role of James Gordon in this atmospheric Batman prequel.  This, rather than being the story of Bruce Wayne (although he is in the show) is the tale of Jim Gordon, rookie detective.  Presumably, should the show run for long enough, we will see him advance throught the ranks to become Police Commissioner as Bruce ages into Batman.  Also present on the scene are various other famous members of the Batman's rogues gallery and a new one or two as well (like Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney).

Tonight's episode of "Gotham" is the last one we're going to see for a while.  This is the fall finale for the James Gordon origin series.  We are promised that tonight's episode will feature the return of Richard Kind and Nicholas D'Agosta in a story that is going to revolve around Gordon getting reassigned to Arkham Asylum.  Arkham, as you may be aware, isn't the easiest of places in Gotham for a police officer.  We imagine Gordon will find trouble.  He's good at that.

Now, here's the question -- is tonight's episode title, "Penguin's Umbrella," offered to us as a nudge-nudge kind of a thing or as a legitimate appearance of what will become the villain's main prop?  We don't know.  The former could make this an upsetting, frustrating episode, while the latter--ah, the latter--could prove immensely important and terribly interesting.  It isn't that the first choice, the nudge-nudge choice, wouldn't be interesting, just that the frustration could outweigh the interest.
