Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; and all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords, and honest men...all will play the Game of Thrones.

We have read the third book in the "Game of Thrones" series and... we aren't going to spill any of the beans here. Come on now, you know the rules, you know we wouldn't do that. What you should also know though is that there is no way they're not going to end the season with something truly amazing going down. The only way that happens is by moving the pieces into place. That movement continues tonight, with a whole bunch of other good bits going on. Tune in and enjoy because, yes we're going to say it now (we love the Stark words), winter is coming.

Tonight's episode of "Game of Thrones" is entitled 'The Rains of Castamere.' As we understand it, that name is the name of a terribly popular Lannister song. Actually, we heard it in season two, didn't we? A few times as we recall. To us that means that we may see Lannisters tonight. But, on the other hand, has there been a single week of the series where we haven't seen Lannisters? The season ends next week and "Game of Thrones" isn't a show which solely puts all the big stuff in the last episode (remember it was episode nine last season that featured the Battle of the Blackwater). Tune in tonight, we expect big things to happen.

Epic. If you were to use one words to describe "Game of Thrones," you may very well choose the word 'epic.' From what has taken place in Astapor to Jon Snow's ascent of The Wall to Jaime's issues to just about everything Tyrion has said and done, the season--and the series--is just epic. We fully expect it to remain so on tonight's episode, the show's final one of the season. We have theories about what will take place (we have read the book), but we aren't going to divulge anything. Watch and see what takes place yourself. We think you're going to enjoy it.

Tonight marks the fifth episode of the third season for "Game of Thrones," which means that once it's done we'll be halfway through this season. What can we promise you about this week? Well, we don't want to say anything about actual plot points but our understanding is that the Hound, Jaime, Robb, and Tyrion will all appear. We do not, however, expect them to be shearing meat and mead together. Can you imagine what that would look like? Oh sure, it would be great, but it really would involve some ridiculous plot machinations to make it take place as this point. Maybe in a few years.

Tonight's episode is entitled 'And now his Watch is Ended.' Presumably, therefore, tonight's episode will deal in no small part with the men of the Night's Watch. Or, if you prefer, the rapists, killers, thieves, and generally dishonorable members of the watch. Although, that isn't entirely true, now is it? What of Jon Snow? What of Samwell Tarly? What of Lord Commander Jeor Mormont? There are good men in the watch. Will one of those men end their watch tonight?

Is it just us, or do you find it weird that the mayor of Baltimore lives in Westeros? We totally don't find it weird that he runs a very sophisticated system of brothels, just that he lives in Westeros. But, we only find it weird because we confuse actors with the characters they play. In any case, the third season of "Game of Thrones" keeps going tonight. The season is based on the third book in George R.R. Martin's series of novels, or at least a portion of the book. Having read the novel, we can tell you that there are some great moments to come this season (and next depending on how they divide stuff).

On a regular basis (several times a day in fact) we tell you to watch this show or watch that show. Let us be quite clear, however, when we tell you that "Game of Thrones" is a must watch, it is a must watch. HBO currently puts out a whole lot of different originals, but "Game of Thrones" is different. "Game of Thrones' is, well, it's "Game of Thrones." It is a mammoth undertaking with a great cast and a massive scope, and that all comes across clearly. You have heard people talk about the show and the books upon which the show is based. Don't you think it's time you have it a chance (if you haven't)?

You would think that there would be some sort of respect, some sort of fealty given to those who have earned it, whether they're ironborn or not. You would also expect that brothers could decide which should rule the kingdom. There are, in short, things which one would expect to happen in the universe which simply don't occur. We kind of feel like Sansa, always expecting to be saved by some lovely knight--just as in song--only to have our hopes repeatedly dashed, and we fear that we're in for dashed hopes tonight in the season finale. Tune in, and remember the Stark words -- winter is coming.

We will not suggest to you that simply by watching this, the second-to-last episode of season two, that you can possibly hope to understand all the nuances of the series if you've missed every other episode -- that's not how "Game of Thrones" works. However, we will tell you that if you're going to watch next week's season finale, you really can't afford to miss this week's episode. This week the pieces get put into place, next week.. well, that would be telling.

When we were reading "A Clash of Kings," we loved the bits in Harrenhal. The background story of the castle is excellent, and when... well, we don't really want to delve into it all that much, it would spoil things for those who haven't read it and if the show decides to change things up, you'll get angry at us. In the end, all we can really say is that the episode ought to be bloody awesome. But, then again, aren't all the episodes of "Game of Thrones" bloody awesome? This is really a weekly must watch series.

Man, have we waited a whole long time for "Game of Thrones" to return with season two. There was this moment there when we considered reading "A Clash of Kings" so that we wouldn't have to wait for the series to resume, but then we realized that the book is over 750 pages long. 750 pages! We figured that it would take us about as long to read the book as it would take for the second season to finish, so we opted to just wait. Oh come on, it's not like we're sitting on that ridiculously uncomfortable Iron Throne while we wait, we've totally been making the most of our time as we're well aware that winter is coming.

We are not, by any stretch of the imagination, suggesting that the game involving the thrones is finished, but make no mistake, this is the season finale of "Game of Thrones." The show will be back next season which certainly means that even if it looks like the game has ended tonight the truth of the matter is that it's only the round that is over. Where exactly will the pieces end up at the end of the night? Well, we'd guess that at least one will be knocked over.

We have some strong theories about what is going to happen during tonight's "Game of Thrones" episode. The season has built in a certain way, next week is the finale, and, to top it all off, we've read the book (and that really does help). We will not, however, be sharing our theories with you. Truth be told, we would much rather be thrown to the direwolves than reveal to you our theory. It is in fact for others here at HitFix to cover the theories, we keep our own counsel on such matters.

We will freely admit it, all the publicity about "Game of Thrones" has managed to convince us to download onto our ebook reader the first in the series of novels. We'll further admit that we quite like the book thus far. There are names that we unquestionably couldn't have pronounced had it not been for the TV show, but we really quite enjoy what we're seeing on both of our screens. While we have a long way to go in terms of reading the series, the show only has a couple of episodes left in the season, that will be here all too soon.

This week's episode of "Game of Thrones" is entitled 'You Win or You Die.' We like that sort of simplicity -- you're being presented with two choices, winning or death. That's it, there's no third option, no way to weasel out of it (if the plot has been organized correctly), just winning or death. We're not going to say here who is presented with the choice, but clearly someone will be. We hope they choose winning, death is so much less fun and Charlie Sheen has pretty well convinced us that winning is excellent.

Motivations are the same the world over, aren't they? Oh sure, the exact words used, and some of the rules may differ from location to location, but as things go, motivations are pretty stable. There is some comfort in that notion. "Game of Thrones," outside of being entirely about funny and hard to spell names, deals with the motivation for actions - love, money, power, hatred, you'll see them all here. Not necessarily tonight mind you, but they're all on display and no matter how different their world is, we can understand where the characters are coming from.

We have been wondering, as this series progresses through its first season, how hard it would be to get involved in the game surrounding the various thrones at this point? Would you be too far behind? Is the 'previously on "Game of Thrones"' enough to bring new people into the fold? If you just started reading the books could you quickly figure out what was happening with Daenerys and the Targaryens and everyone else or would you grow so confused by the names themselves that it would be impossible?

There was once was this fellow named Ned. Ned was out to search for secrets about a guy who is dead. The guy who is dead was the predecessor of Ned... Wow, that was a bad idea and we totally apologize for ever, ever, even heading down that road, it diminished both Ned and ourselves. What we're trying to tell you is this -- the story continues tonight on "Game of Thrones" and does so in a much more literarilly acceptable way than our poem.

Good old Ned is going to be arriving at King's Landing tonight and you know what that means... party. Well, probably not. It could mean party, hypothetically speaking, but we don't really see this as the kind of series that is going to revel in the sort of drunken debauchery that such a party just would probably involve. There is actually a whole lot of other stuff that's going to happen too and so even if there was a party (and we're not admitting that there will be a party) there won't be a whole lot of time to revel in it.

HBO has been touting the coming of this series for an awfully long time, but tonight it finally arrives. For those not in the know, it is based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series written by George R.R. Martin and is a fantasy show which revolves a couple of scheming families trying to control all the land (the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros). Featuring a large cast, expect this new show to have the same high production values one normally associates with an HBO series and, with any luck, some pretty great swordplay as well.
