TV Network - Comedy CentralIt has taken an awful long time for "Futurama" to get to their 100th episode, an awful long time. We don't mean in number of seasons, we mean in actual years. You're probably going to go off and say something about how that's all a result of the series being off the air for a number of years, but we're convinced that that's no excuse - if they'd really wanted to get to episode 100 before now they would have tried a little bit harder. Surely a pizza delivery boy living in the future with a drunk robot and a bunch of aliens could have worked it all out a long time ago.

Comedy Central has announced that this current season of "Futurama" will be the show's last. Of course, we've heard that before, haven't we? This show was on FOX back in the day before disappearing for years and then got resurrected here on cable. So, yes, right now it appears as though the run of episodes which begins tonight will mark the last new episodes we'll ever get of "Futurama," but we don't know if we should believe it. It really could just be that the show is going to end up in stasis. Think of it as becoming something like a disembodied head in a jar, just waiting to be picked up and dusted off.

You know how there are those series which you're always happy to see return? For us, "Futurama" is on our list. We distinctly remember watching the series premiere. We remember being disappointed at its cancellation. And we remember being happy at the series' rebirth. There is something so hugely weird about this tale of a regular old fool who has been transported to the future. It's like "Buck Rogers," but purposefully funny and somewhat more animated. Plus, like "Buck Rogers," it has a crazy robot.

On a regular (let's say episodic) basis there is crazy stuff happening on "Futurama," and we fully expect this holiday special to prove no different. In fact, we fully expect this holiday special to prove to be even more crazy than the usual sort of crazy the show has going on. Can you imagine what Bender must get up to on the holidays? Can you imagine what the head of Al Gore does? And, if the present is any indication, can you imagine how early they start selling holiday stuff in stores int he future?
