TV Network - TNTThat is right, it's time for the return of the other John Carter. Oh, John Truman Carter III may be pretending to be some guy named Tom Mason here, but we'll always know is true (secret) identity. You may recall from last summer that this series features Carter, still without Benton or Greene, trying to survive in post-alien invasion Massachusetts. He is a member of a small band of rebels attempting to figure out how to destroy the aliens and reclaim Earth for the good of humanity... and all so that he can return to County General Hospital in Chicago (or something like that).

We don't really care how long he has it, we're just not sure about Noah Wyle's beard. There is something very latter day John Truman Carter III about it and we always preferred the pre-Paul Sobriki John Truman Carter III. The dude was never really the same after that moment. Actually, we don't care what he says about being a history teacher here, we kind of see "Falling Skies" as a darker version of the way Carter's life may have gone following the end of "ER." Most people just see it as a post-apocalyptic alien invasion television show, but those people just aren't trying. Season three starts tonight with back-to-back episodes.

Now, if Chicken Little told you that the sky was falling, even if it wasn't, would you still think that there were aliens whose goal it was to take over the Earth and kill everyone on it whom they didn't want to enslave? We would, and we would because we've seen "Falling Skies" and we believe it to be a future documentary (a real look at what's happening in the future). Come on now, you know it and we know it -- there is going to come a day in the very near future when either the zombies or the aliens come to get us, and from what we've seen on "Falling Skies," we'd much prefer the latter over the former.

TNT ordered a 10 episode second season of "Falling Skies" and tonight's episode is number eight (so, two more after tonight). Entitled 'Death March,' the episode will, almost assuredly, focus on the trials and tribulations of our rag-tag group of survivors. We wish that we could say that things were looking up for them, but it feels as though for every positive step they take, they end up having to give up something major. It isn't that there's no hope for them, it's just that even when they do good, bad happens. See if their luck starts to change permanently tonight (just don't hold your breath).

The opening few minutes of "Falling Skies" was absolutely brilliant, and much of what has followed this season has been quite good as well. Now, sadly, we've reached the season finale. The show will go out with two back-to-back episodes here (much in the way that it started), but we can't help but feel a sense of loss with its impending disappearance. It almost feels as though aliens have taken over our home world and massacred us on a scale not to be believed (we take season finales rather poorly, especially when the show in question stars Noah Wyle and Moon Bloodgood).
