Tonight, "Face Off" opens its fourth season with a 90 minute episode. What that means for you and me is more epic awesomeness wherein we get to see contestants come up with some of the most amazing science fiction creations you've seen since the last "Star Trek" movie trailer. Wait, there weren't that many aliens in the trailer (at least not obvious ones), right? Okay, so the analogy wasn't a good one, but that's not what's relevant here, what's relevant is "Face Off" starting up again. Tune in and see what these contestants come up with, they're often truly outstanding.

It was a mere three and a half years ago that we were introduced to the wonder that is "Face Off," and now we're here to tell you that the seventh season of the series is starting up tonight. That makes the series a success and we'll tell you why -- the creations brought to life by these makeup artists are truly impressive things. This new season will feature a new judge, Lois Burwell, and it will be interesting to see what she brings to the series.

Tonight is the sixth season finale of "Face Off" and that means that someone will lose their face. Okay, that's not at all true, nor would it be true if we said that there is some sort of crazy procedure that takes place here in which people end up looking like someone else via genetic modification. But, that doesn't mean that this reality show, which focuses on people's abilities to create incredible make-up and prosthetic designs, isn't exciting. It absolutely is, and a winner will be declared tonight on the season finale.

No joke, some of the things the contestants put together on "Face Off" are truly astounding. There are these moments where we feel pangs of guilt that someone has to lose, that someone has to go home. We don't know if tonight is going to be one of those nights, or if it's going to be one of the weeks where we can readily identify four contestants deserving of the boot. We can tell you this -- we'll be tuning in to find out which way things lean, and you should, too.

It is true that the last season of "Face Off" ended just about two months ago, but the truth is this --- can you ever have too much of a good thing when that thing is seeing people compete on reality series? As long as the contestants are interesting and the tasks fun, isn't it better to have more episodes than fewer episodes? We certainly think so, and apparently Syfy doesn't necessarily disagree as they're launching a new season of "Face Off" tonight. This, for those keeping score, is season six.

We do not believe that this is the last time we'll see a new episode of "Face Off," but it is the last time we'll see a new episode in season five. Tonight, this go-round of the season ends, but not only that, tonight is being billed as a special episode called "Naked and Painted." We therefore assume that if you watch tonight, you'll see contestants get models naked... and painted.

"Face Off" has been a pretty big hit for Syfy, and you can see why -- it's just so much fun. The series features makeup artists creating some truly impressive effects with tape, foam, makeup, and dynamite. Okay, fine, there's no dynamite to knock off a little bit of someone's nose, but the rest of it remains true. We promise that you will be truly impressed with some of the things these artists create, and with a 90 minute premiere we will get to see a little bit more of what goes into creating such great work. Now, if they would only add dynamite to the proceedings...

We have sat and watched as the fourth season of "Face Off" has progressed and we have some thoughts about who is going to win tonight. We are, in fact, quite convinced that it will be one of the remaining contestants. That is right, we have analyzed the series and we do not believe that they're going to bring back an eliminated individual and have them win the whole shebang. How upset would you be if that's what happened? Pretty upset, right? That is why they're not going to do such a thing, it would be patently unfair.

For a chance to win cash and opportunities, makeup artists compete to create the best creatures inspired by confections, making sure to incorporate real candy that they find throughout the revamped lab into their sugary designs.

Do not let the fact that this live episode is airing on Halloween fool you -- the people are not ghosts nor mummies nor ghouls nor any manner of foul creature (save reality show contestants), they're make-up artists (and consequently, we imagine, appearing in full make-up tonight). Tonight's episode is, as stated, going to be live and, as not yet stated, it's going to be hosted by series host McEnzie Westmore who will reveal which of the three finalists has won this season's crown.

Tomorrow night there will be live finale for "Face Off." Tomorrow night there will be the opportunity to discuss what transpired this season. Tomorrow night there will be recriminations, ruminations, and contemplations. That, however, is all tomorrow night. Actually, tomorrow night is the night we'll learn who the winner is too, but you are going to choose the winner this season, and your ability to choose said winner begins right after tonight's episode. Oh yes, it's true, viewers will be able to vote on whom they want to win and we'll all be learning just whom people voted for tomorrow. But, to vote properly, you really need to watch tonight.

Do you realize that "Face Off" apparently holds the record for the most watched unscripted series in Syfy (and SciFi) history? Or, at the very least, the second season finale holds that record. To us, it's not believable, and we actually have a theory to explain it. What if all the contestants weren't just creating make-up designs to show how talented they are, but are actually creating whole new people, people who then tune in to watch their creators on the series? Then, all they would have to do is plant the pod people in a Nielsen house and boom, huge ratings. Okay, that isn't what's happening (but it's an awesome theory). Watch the season premiere tonight and see why people tune in.

People love their "Face Off," and we don't think it's simply that they love to say "Face Off" as it was said over and over again in the movie "Face Off," although that was pretty awesome. We think people like it because the work the contestants do is truly outstanding. The creatures created via the contestants' SFX make-up sometimes cause us to run out of words. We would also like to point out that the series is watched by enough people that it will be back for a third season. There is still season two to deal with however, and tonight we're going to find out whom is going home with the grand prize.

Admit it, if nothing else, watching this series has given you a new found respect for make-up artists and the work that they do bringing creatures to life. There is a huge amount of skill and an incredible dedication to the craft required of these people who are all too often unsung heroes. For instance, without their aid, we would never go out into the world; we are simply too hideous to possibly emerge from our dank basement without the help of professional make-up artists. Find out who wins the competition on Syfy tonight.
