The last time we saw a new episode of "Dallas" was way back in mid-April. Heck, taxes weren't even do at that point.  Tonight though, taxes are well in the rearview mirror as the reborn series returns with all new episodes.  Actually, we wonder, when was the last time "Dallas" did a someone owes taxes story?  Wait, does someone owe back taxes currently?  Or, do they owe back taxes but we don't know it because the writers haven't yet decided to make them have owed back taxes at this point although we could find out in the future that they did.  If that makes sense.

The entirety of the third season of "Dallas" isn't over, but the spring finale is here.  This is episode eight of the 15 that were ordered as a part of the season, meaning that nearly half the season remains.  As a terribly (in a good way) sudsy soap, we expect fireworks and something of a cliffhanger tonight.  Although, to be fair, you wouldn't be terribly surprised by that any week on "Dallas," would you?  Of course you wouldn't, and why wouldn't you?  Because it's "Dallas" and that's what it's all about.  Well, that and oil.

This is the first full season that "Dallas" will exist without Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing.  It will be exceptionally interesting to see how the series contends with this dramatic change.  We have to imagine that the shadow cast by J.R. continues to follow the Ewing family this season, but he won't be actively involved in any of the machinations.  The rest of the new "Dallas" cast is back for this season, and with or without J.R. we still expect a whole lot of backstabbing and drama and the soapy goodness for which the series (new and old) is known.

It has been a big second season for the series and I don't think anyone out there would suggest that the entire thing has gone according to plan.  The reborn series may have gotten to do another 'Who Shot JR' storyline, but unfortunately, this one isn't going to end with the legendary figure returning.  Larry Hagman has been--and will be for as long as the series continues--sorely missed.  The show has done their level best to deal with the loss, but it can't have been easy professionally or personally for anyone involved.  Will the second season finale hint at where the show may head in a third season?

The second season of the revamped "Dallas" is nearly at its end.  As a part of this season we have gotten to say goodbye to an old friend (or enemy) and one last hello to original "Dallas" faces.  Next week the season will end with back-to-back episodes (we'll remind you when the time comes), and this penultimate week will also feature back-to-back episodes.  This week is certain to setup next week's activities.  Put another way, you won't understand next week's backstabbing if you don't see the knife go into a hand this week.

As has been reported, Larry Hagman passed away in 2012 and did so during the filming of the second season of "Dallas."  There are several episodes of the reborn TV series' second season that contain Hagman, and tonight TNT will premiere the season and consequently some of Hagman's last episodes.  As with the original "Dallas," Hagman's J.R. Ewing is unquestionably one of the best--if not the best--parts of the show.  Be sure to tune in tonight for back-to-back episodes to watch the master at work.

We would like to tell you that tonight is the season finale and that you can expect everything to work out perfectly in the episode.  Nothing would give us more pleasure than to say to you that the bad guys will get what they have coming, the good guys will live happily ever after, and there will be more than one swanky party to celebrate it all.  That won't happen.  Instead, the backstabbing will continue, the lies will continue, the deceit will continue, and we'll get some sort of cliffhanger.  Okay, forget what we said about what we wanted, this'll totally be better.

Was the original "Dallas" better or was it only better in our mind?  Wait, hold it, is that question even relevant?  The relevant question is whether or not you've enjoyed watching the reborn series (which, clearly, needs more of the older crowd and less of the younger if you ask us).  We have certainly been watching on a weekly basis and you can bet with the season finale airing next week that we're not going to be skipping tonight's episode.  You shouldn't either -- the pieces are in motion, things are afoot, and you can bet that something that happens tonight will make a huge difference next week.
