  Is it really a covert affair if you repeatedly announce not just the fact that you're airing an episode, but precisely what episode you're airing?  We kind of feel like it isn't.  We really think to remain covert you have to remain hidden and don't buy any of these latter-day 'hiding in plain sight' bits of nonsense.  That being said, we're completely enthralled by watching Piper Perabo every week go around the world and try to figure out her love life at the same time.  Tonight, we'll be getting the third season finale, and after that we're all just going to have to wait until next summer to see what happens (we're pretty sure it'll be a cliffhanger of a finale).

  What you have with "Covert Affairs" is a spy drama of the international variety, the kind where the world is made safe.  But, placed on top of that sort of fun there is the love stuff, too.  Does Annie love Auggie?  Does Auggie love Annie?  Will Annie and Auggie learn to love each other?  Should Annie and Auggie learn to love each other?  Is anyone really named Auggie and if your name was Anne would you go by Annie following the existence of the little orphan without pupils?  There may always be tomorrow, and it may only ever be a day away, but that's only because people like Annie are out there protecting us.

  Fitting in with USA's whole 'characters welcome' humor thing, this show's title is something of a play on words.  The name indicates not just that the main character does CIA/special ops/spy stuff, but that there is kind of a hot and sexy between the sheets thing going on too.  Piper Perabo certainly is an attractive woman and Christopher Gorham isn't bad either (as a guy, not as a woman), so the title definitely works.  "Covert Affairs" is returning tonight and will finish its second season run before returning next summer for season three (yes, it has already been picked up for another season).

  Call us goofy, but we like to think that after tonight this show is going to head back under the radar for a while.  That's right, we like to imagine that the series is absolutely continuing even though we're not able to watch it.  Essentially, we're suggesting that while off the air the show continues in a stealth mode.  Or, if you prefer, you might suggest that the various affairs that are part of the series remain ongoing, but do so covertly (eh, do you see where we're going?).  This is the summer season finale (not overall season finale) of "Covert Affairs," so enjoy.

  If we had to try to describe USA Network programming we think we'd say something like 'all their shows make characters feel welcome.'  No.  No we wouldn't.  That's what USA would say to describe them.  We would say that they're almost all dramedies which try to be ultra hip.  In this particular one, Piper Perabo plays a CIA agent who has to try to balance the personal and the professional.  Plus wear tight clothes and high heels, she has to do a whole lot of that too.

  It's been quite the first season for that woman from "Coyote Ugly" and that guy from "Ugly Betty."  There has been intrigue and secrets and lies and, generally speaking, some pretty covert affairs taking place.  We don't believe that everything will get cleared up this evening - in fact, it's much more likely that a whole new can of worms or two will be opened by the end of the double episode - but we do fully expect a question or two to get answered.  Which question(s)?  Goodness knows, but it'll undoubtedly lead to even more questions so perhaps it's not the answering but the asking that counts.
