    Christmas in Rockefeller Center

    Dec 03, 2014

    TV Network - NBC

Every year on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, the plaza at 30 Rockefeller Center is packed, utterly and completely packed with people.  Why?  Because every year on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving they light the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center.  There will be music and speeches and more music and celebration and, people.  Lots of people.  Seriously, if you're in the area on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, avoid Rockefeller Center unless you're actually going to the event.

    TV Network - NBC

Every year, on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, a huge number of people gather in Rockefeller Center (seriously, it's so packed you can't really walk through it with any sort of ease) and they watch as folks sing and honor and discuss and then, finally, light the famed Christmas Tree that sits between 30 Rockefeller Plaza and the ice skating rink.  Just because we know that at some point during this hour the tree will be lit, that doesn't make the process any less exciting.

    TV Network - NBC

Every year, on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, they take that Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and they make the lights go all twinkly.  This is done with famous people smiling and singing and generally acting in a jovial fashion.  It really is quite the festive time.  But, we ask you to consider all the work that goes into it.  Do you know how hard it must be to keep that tree all green and pretty in the middle of July and August?  There are probably guys out there constantly hosing it down (remember, it's no longer in soil).  So, celebrate all that hard work tonight, when you can see their efforts finally pay off.

    TV Network - NBC

In this nation there are many Christmas trees.  We don't want to say millions, but there may in fact be millions of them.  Well, if there was one tree to symbolize them all (one tree to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them) it would be the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.  As is tradition, the tree will be lit today, the Wednesday after Thanksgiving in an even sure to be filled with stars, music, and a whole lot of merriment.  You can't avoid it anymore, the Christmas season is here.
