Burn Notice
Dec 06, 2012 10:00 PM
TV Network - USADo you remember how we told you back at the beginning of November that "Burn Notice" was coming back and would run weekly (save for Thanksgiving) until there were no more episodes left? Well, we did (seriously, go back and look), and we are rapidly approaching that season finale. The sixth season ends on December 20th with a two-hour episode (not to worry, we'll remind you when the time comes), so there isn't a whole lot of time left to get your "Burn Notice" on. Remember, Michael Weston can't do everything by himself -- we highly encourage you to watch tonight and shout at the screen if there's a bad guy behind Michael so that he doesn't get blindsided.

Wiser minds than ours can tell you exactly what happened at the end of last season on "Burn Notice." As we recall, Michael was on the run and he made some sort of deal and things are now going to be different. Except, are they really? Are they really going to be different? If "Burn Notice" isn't all about Michael pulling this thread and losing his mind in the process, what is it about? We have seen Michael make deals with people before only to break them later, and the series continually reinvents itself in an effort to make that thread keep coming. We will see what this season's reinvention brings.

In case you haven't been following the news (or, maybe we didn't tell you last week), "Burn Notice" is ending this year. The 13 episodes we're getting here in season seven are the last 13 episodes we'll ever get and tonight, tonight is something truly special. Tonight is episode 100 of "Burn Notice." Tonight is the, traditionally speaking even if it isn't necessarily true anymore, classic number of episodes one needs to hit in order to live on in syndication forever and ever. That means that whatever happens to Michael at the end of the season, he will forever live on in late night/weekend afternoon showings. Solace, thy name is syndication.

Do you remember how, earlier this season Sam Axe was there with one of our favorite "The Wire" cops, and you were kind of wondering just how he was going to get away and thinking that maybe, just maybe, he wasn't going to? (Fine, you always knew he was going to be going free, but go with us for a minute on this) Tonight's season finale is going to feature shaves that are even more close... we think. Listen, all we can really promise you about tonight is that the cliffhanger/twist at the end is going to be just phenomenal. It isn't that we've already seen the episode, it's just we have the formula down pat... and so do they.

We know, you thought that Michael Weston never rested, that he never took any time off. And yet, last week, in the middle of the second half of the sixth season, Michael Weston took a week off. We assume that last Thursday he was home, eating turducken with Sam, Fi, his mom, and that new guy. We don't know why Sam wasn't with his lady friend for the holiday, but he wasn't, maybe she wasn't making turducken. Whatever the reasons for Michael's week off, the man is back on the case tonight and he's going to be out for revenge... or knowledge... or whatever he's fighting for now (we're confused about the larger story at this point).

There are, including tonight's back-to-back episodes, a total of eight episodes left of "Burn Notice" this season. USA is going to be airing those episodes on a weekly basis until they run out. Well, sort of. They're not going to be airing an episode on Thanksgiving and they're doing two episodes this week and two episodes the last week (December 20th). But, other than that, they're doing the episodes on a weekly basis. That is kind of like saying that this time out we're totally going to get all the answers we want about all the conspiracies on the show -- it's true but not.

You have no idea how badly we want to do one of those Michael Weston-y voiceovers about how when you've hit the summer season finale you've lost everything, but we're not going to do it. We are not going to do it because we've done it so many times before. We are not going to do it because it won't get us anywhere. We are not going to do it because we really don't have anything remotely clever or new to say in such a vein. Here is what we're going to do instead, we're going to tell you that Michael is, allegedly, closer than ever before to getting those who burned him and why and that tonight's finale will almost certainly be cliffhanger-y and fun. Because, when you've written the same paragraph over and over again, you're not going anywhere.

At the end of the fifth season of "Burn Notice," some pretty bad things went down, so bad that we're tempted to say that there's some bad juju that surrounds Michael Weston. We won't though because we're not actually quite sure what 'juju' means, we just like the sound of it. Listen, wherever things ended though, we're pretty convinced that it won't be too long before Michael is able to put the band back together and his desire to do that is awfully high at the moment. Watch, because it should be a powerful first hour.

Happily already renewed for season six, "Burn Notice" finishes up season five tonight. One of the things that "Burn Notice" has excelled at through the years is its cliffhanger finales. It always seems as though Michael Weston is on the cusp of figuring it all out only for things to change completely at the end of every season. We don't exactly know how that's going to happen this season as we've been promised that there is but one bad guy left, but we're sure that they will figure out away. Let's face it, there really is no "Burn Notice" without the massive conspiracy theory thing. Watch and see how it all changes today.

Burn Notice

TV Network - USA
We will happily admit it, we've completely given up on the idea of ever remembering or understanding where exactly Michael Westen is with with the search for who burned him or who killed the people who burned him or who burned the people who killed the people who burned him. All we know at this point is that Michael is on the hunt for someone and that he won't rest until no one is left alive in Miami, which really is a shame because the show does depict tons of beautiful people on the beach and we'll miss them after Michael blows them all up. Oh well, the show has already been renewed for season six, so probably there will be people left standing when the season ends.

After being hugely confused about the twists and turns Michael Westen's life has taken since "Burn Notice" began, we spent a whole lot of this summer season trying to work out exactly what has happened to him through the years. We actually made this massive graphical road map depicting his life. It was fantastic (and very colorful). Unfortunately, a shadowy organization broke into our home, tied us up, and explained to us that there was no Michael Westen so we no longer have the diagram to show you. We'll try to make another after tonight's season finale, but don't be surprised if our doing so means that you never hear from us again.

Over the course of the past few years, "Burn Notice" has become a summer staple. We can't imagine going through our summers without watching Michael Weston get into--and out of--some truly terrible scrapes. Don't ask us who exactly the bad guys are, we just know that they're out there and they want Michael removed. What we do know is that the show has managed to, pretty consistently, deliver action and humor and some really compelling characters. Long may that continue.

Burn Notice
Dec 16, 2010
TV Network - USA
Does it seem to anyone else like "Burn Notice" just returned with new episodes? Call us crazy, but why did the series come back if there were only five or six episodes left? Wouldn't it have been better to just run through them all over the summer or to make the season 20+ episodes instead of 18? If they had done the latter, there could have at least been a substantial number of episodes for this second portion of the season. At least they're going out with both hours of the two-part finale tonight. We're sure that the second part will end in a cliffhanger, but we're still happy to get both parts leading up to said cliffhanger; it makes the whole thing feel more substantial.

That Michael Westen, the poor guy can never quite catch a break, can he? Or, perhaps more accurately, every single time he catches a break and starts to really figure stuff out it all falls apart again. And that poor Jesse fellow, man did Michael and company mess that kid up. The show is coming back to finish up its fourth season run and we fully expect things to get a whole lot worse before they get remotely better - good for us, but bad for Michael. Real bad. But still, good for us is what really matters, isn't it?

Burn Notice

TV Network - USA
Man, Michael Westen has not been having an easy time of it, has he? We don't exactly know why he went to work for his potential enemies and did what he did to Jesse, but he did (we don't think Fiona was wrong to be perturbed) and he's had to live with those consequences. We imagine that said consequences are taking more of an emotional toll than we've seen. At least we like to imagine that, it improves our opinion of him.
Expect big doings on the series tonight as this is the summer season finale. Maybe Jesse will get even with Michael. Now that would be exciting.

Burn Notice
Jun 03, 2010
TV Network - USA
Last time we saw Michael Westen... awww heck, who knows. He had either thought he was closer to getting back into the spy game, realized he wasn't, decided he wanted to be with Fiona, or maybe she decided she didn't want to be with him... whatever the case may be we just remember liking it a whole lot. Plus, is what may have happened in the past still truly relevant? Michael Westen is back for a whole new season of "Burn Notice" goodness, and the bottom line is that when you're the audience, you're not going anywhere.

Bottom line? Until you figure out who burned you, you're not going anywhere... that is, unless the season is coming to a close. If the season of your television show is ending, you're definitely going somewhere whether or not you discover in the finale who burned you. As much as you may want to figure out who burned you, and as much as you may have an opportunity to do so because it is the season finale, whether or not you're successful you're pretty much going off into that extended darkness we call 'hiatus.' Tough luck, Westen.

Burn Notice
Jan 21, 2010

You know the deal - Michael Westen is hot on the heels of those who dared burn him and then send him back home to Miami, forcing him to deal with his ex-girlfriend, a retired SeAL who spied on him, and his (shudder) family. Michael's made a go of it though in Miami - he's got feelings for the ex-girlfriend, is buds with the SeAL, and actually has dinner with his mom on a fairly regular basis. That doesn't mean that he doesn't want to find out who lied about him to his government bosses however, and his hunt resumes tonight as the winter half of the series' third season begins.

With its Miami settings, breezy plotlines and sexy stars, USA's "Burn Notice" is a perfect summer series and it returns on Thursday (June 4) for its third season, which picks up in the immediate aftermath of last season's cliffhanger.
Jeffery Donovan, Bruce Campbell, Gabrielle Anwar and Sharon Gless all returned for another run of this colorful, fast-moving series.
