TV Network - The CWPlease don't immediately jump on the notion of this being like a traditional "Beauty and the Beast" story. It isn't just that it's been updated, it's much more that it's kind of closer to "The Incredible Hulk" than "Beauty and the Beast." You see, if the Beast stayed a beast for all time, The CW wouldn't have an excuse to cast some hunky dude in the role (you can't do flashbacks to pre-Beast days every episode, can you?). So, instead, the Beast only becomes a beast when he gets angry, Hulk style even if he ends up looking like a beast, not the Hulk. One wonders if he got hit by Gamma rays here.

Is this the "Beauty and the Beast" which entranced audiences as a Disney movie? No. Is it the same one that aired on TV a few decades back? No. Is it the same one which people first heard tell of oh-so-long ago? Most obviously it isn't. That doesn't mean that the show can't be a success in its own right. That doesn't mean that you can't find a way to make the show interesting. That doesn't mean that it Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan can't be a dynamic, interesting, attractive lead duo. As the series returns with its winter premiere, see if it doesn't have something to attract you.
