There are many options today for watching fireworks and, happily, more than one of those options allows you to sit at home and see the fireworks unfold in high definition glory whilst your in your pajamas.  PBS is giving us their traditional "A Capitol Fourth," which, as the name suggests, offers a celebration of Independence from Washington, D.C.  Now, what the name doesn't suggest but which we'll happily tell you is that this is a 90 minute special which will reair immediately following the first airing.  We don't know why you would need that in this age of DVRs, but perhaps you do and PBS has heard your desire.  Tom Bergeron hosts.

It has to be said early on (because we figure PBS will get angry if we don't) -- check your local listings about this, but we do suspect that "A Capitol Fourth" will be airing tonight on your local PBS station no matter where you live.  But, no matter when it airs (really though, don't worry, we figure that it'll be starting at the right time), it will be a celebration of all that makes this nation wonderful -- music and fireworks.  Washington provides a pretty good backdrop for fireworks and music.  Check it out tonight (before flipping to the various other fireworks shows later in the evening).

    TV Network - PBS

The year 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of "A Capitol Fourth."  It does actually seem pretty fitting to celebrate our nation's birthday at our nation's capitol in our nation's capital even if said capitol and capital weren't in existence when our nation began.  The National Symphony Orchestra will be performing live on the West Lawn of the Capitol and PBS will have cameras all over the city to capture the majesty of our nation's birthday from the place where our federal government resides.
