"30 Rock" ends, forever, on January 31st. Tonight the last run of episodes begins. Through the years, "30 Rock" has been a--well--rock on the NBC lineup. It has given us the tale Liz Lemon and her desire for... let's go with normalcy. We could have also chosen 'success on a personal level' or 'stars not to be idiots' but we like 'normalcy' here. Will she get ever closer to that moment tonight? Will Matt Damon return and destroy her marriage? We are getting ever closer to the end times here on "30 Rock," now is not the moment to miss an episode.

After tonight, our life will be a little more empty. After tonight, we will have no more stories of Liz and Jack and Tracy and Kenneth and Jenna and Frank and Toofer and Pete and Grizz and Dot Com and everyone else on "30 Rock." Well, no more stories except for slash fiction and that really doesn't count, does it. It makes us sad and lonesome and a little heartsick. We will be honest with you, no small part of our upset is the fact that we are Kenneth and with no more stories about Kenneth, it's kind of like our lives are ending. We are convinced though that Tina Fey has something big planned for tonight and we can't wait to see it.

Here is what we know about tonight's episode of "30 Rock" -- it is the fall finale. It isn't the series finale and it isn't the season finale, it is the fall finale (yes, we know, fall is a season, but it's a different sort of season than a TV season). New episodes are scheduled to begin in January, with the--gulp--series finale airing on the 31st of January in the form of back-to-back episodes, but that means that after tonight there are only four more weeks of new episodes (five new episodes in total). Watch now, because the watching is just about done.

Think back. Think back to oh so many years ago when NBC picked up two series about sketch comedy shows in the same year (we know, we've said this before, but it's something we regularly consider). Few people would have guessed that it would be "30 Rock" to last longer than "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." "30 Rock" did make it though, and has become a long-running series for the peacock network. This, however, is the final season of "30 Rock" and it's only schedules to be 13 episodes. Tonight is episode three, don't miss it and don't miss any of the others that are yet to come. Plus, you know, Ryan Lochte.

Let us all remember that this was thought by many to be 'that other sketch comedy show' NBC was going to air starting in the Fall of 2006. This was the also-ran, the second choice, the small, other, series. And yet, here we are in the Fall of 2012 and we can't even remember the title of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" or that it starred Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry while "30 Rock" is beginning its final season this very evening (we won't even tell you that between that time and this Perry has headlined two other sitcoms including this season's "Go On").
