    24: Live Another Day

    Jul 14, 2014

    TV Network - FOX

Well, it had to happen eventually and that eventually has arrived.  Tonight, Jack Bauer's day ends.  Happily for Jack, he didn't have to pull a full 24 hour shift this time out, but as this is just a special reborn series, we wonder if the rules have changed.  Traditionally, only Bauer has ever been safe on the show -- he's the only one we new for certain wouldn't die.  But, that was then and this is now.  Is Jack Bauer safe anymore?  What kind of a great ending would that be?  Tune in and see if FOX goes that route.

Next week is Jack Bauer's final hour... perhaps his final--and finest--hour.  But, we promise you this, there is a lot of work that has to happen between then and now, a lot of work that is, in a word, deadly and dangerous.  Okay, that's three words, but we think you get the point.  Jack Bauer has struggled mightily here and, maybe, wishes that he hadn't lived another day.  However, live he has, and he will continue to live, at the very minimum, until next week.

It is tough for us to write specifically about tonight's episode in advance for several reasons.  So, rather than spoiling things for anyone, we'll tell you this -- Jack Bauer isn't having a great day.  He has been forced to deal with enemies, face off against friends, and generally question everything (again).  Come mid-July, Jack's day will be over, but right now he is still in the thick of things, hang in with him while the folks over in the computer area try to open a socket.

    TV Network - FOX

Tonight's episode of "24: Live Another Day" (we like to think of it as "The Bauer Power Hour") marks the conclusion of 2/3 of the season.  Yup, it may take 24 hours to get through a day, but as we've said before, this day Jack only has 12 hours to save the world.  Our new thought however is that the reduced time is actually pretty great because Bauer is kind of an old man at this point and those 24 hour shifts really have to be too much.  We are, in any case, heading towards the home stretch, so don't lose faith now, because Jack Bauer never gives up.

Sure, we're going to say it again -- we really want, just occasionally, after Jack Bauer does something awesome for him to look into the camera, wink, and say "Jack Bauer!"  How great would that be, right?  Well, don't expect it to happen today.  Instead, today you can expect Bauer to be all Bauer-like and stern.  And, maybe even also a little sad because, after all, he's gitting the halfway point tonight.  Poor Jack, his show may be called "24," but this year he's only getting 12.

Well, Jack Bauer has had to deal with a lot in the past, and it seems like he's going to have to deal with a lot today as well, and by today we don't just mean today in our world (like May 12), we mean today in Jack's world.  We don't know where Jack's life is headed, but if history has taught us anything, it's that he's going to have to suffer a whole lot--and maybe even lose a part of himself--before the day ends.  Sure, we feel bad for him, but we're excited to watch it happen.
