We, as ever, remain steadfastly unconvinced of the assertion that America has got talent. But, our convictions are neither here nor there. Instead, let us tell you that this season's judges are Howie Mandel, Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, and Melanie Brown. Nick Cannon returns to host the series and we're going to see just what sorts of individuals will be vying for the crown on season eight. Just what will the new judges add to the proceedings? Will someone stand up to Howard Stern? Will someone dare to look Howie Mandel in the eye (we don't know if that's a thing, but it should be)? Tonight, we get our first chance to get some answers.

With a two hour season finale, the great experiment of putting Howard Stern on "America's got Talent" comes to a close. Or, the first season of the great experiment ends anyway. We have no idea what the next season of "America's got Talent" may bring (should there be one), but we do know this -- tonight, a winner will be crowned. Yes, folks, tonight, the story is not Howard Stern (no matter how much we may want to watch him), but rather which American (we assume there is one) has the talent and where they're going to take it (European tour?).

As talent searches go, "America's Got Talent" is the one NBC airs. We kid. We kid because we care. We are highlighting the show this week for that exact reason -- because we care. We care about the show and we care about you and we don't want you to miss the show tonight just because it's airing at a special time. You see, they'll be doing some Olympic team trials earlier in the evening so "America's Got Talent" flips back an hour. Of course, suggesting that the Olympic team doesn't have talent is foolish, they're just not on the show.

Last night we got our first taste of Howard Stern on "America's Got Talent." Tonight you can bet that we're going to get oh so much more. Love him or hate him, you can't deny this -- Howard Stern has strong opinions and really doesn't hesitate to make said opinions known. Tonight is the second night of the exceptionally popular series' season premiere, so make sure to tune in, turn up the volume, and hear what Howard Stern really thinks about some of the 'talented' people in this country (or at least those brave enough to perform in front of him).

Over the course of two nights (today and tomorrow), "America's Got Talent" is launching its new season. The show has become a summer staple through the past half-dozen years, rating as the most watched series of the summer six years in a row (oh yes, it's true). Will the addition of Howard Stern as a judge be able to keep that streak alive? Will the series grow any larger? Does America in fact have talent? Tonight we start to form answers to those questions and oh so many more.

As we told you with the season premiere, we are unconvinced of this series' claim that America's got talent. If you feel as we do, may we humbly suggest that you follow in our footsteps here and check in on the series again tonight. This season is progressing awfully quickly, and tonight's two hour episode is a great chance to watch another episode and see if your initial assessment--our initial assessment--was in fact accurate or if it might be time to reconsider.

We have said it before and we'll almost certainly say it again at some point, but no matter what this show claims we're not entirely sure that America does have all that much talent. In fact, that's why we tune in to "America's Got Talent" on a regular basis, to see if we can be convinced otherwise. It doesn't really help the series' claim when none of the three judges are American. Nick Cannon, the host might be, but Piers, Sharon, and Howie were all born elsewheres (okay, Howie was born in America Jr., but that's still not America).

There is unquestionably a group of people out there who think that hour-long episodes of "America's Got Talent" are enough. We don't particularly want to tell those people that they're wrong, but we're still really happy to see the two hour episodes start this week. Now, to placate those who prefer hour-long episodes, the show will still have those every week, so if you're one of those folks don't fear. This is very much a "we can all get along" moment - there are hour episodes for people who want those and two hour episodes for those who prefer something longer. The fact that the producers can work out both hour and two hour shows in a single week proves to us that America truly does have talent and that makes us proud.

We have a theory as to why exactly this show returns year after year, and continues to do so this year even without David Hasselhoff, would you like to hear it? Well, we're going to tell you anyway. It's because the title of the suggests that there are talented people in this country but, by and large, the show has failed to prove that - they're going to keep bringing the show back until everyone is convinced that America does in fact have talent. Will this year be the year that they finally find the talent? We have our fingers crossed.

Does America have its own Susan Boyle?
The search for our own virginal, 47-year-old singing angel begins on the fourth season premiere of NBC's "America's Got Talent."
While David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne return as judges, this will be the debut of host Nick Cannon, who replaces Jerry Springer.
The show will debut with a two-hour audition episode on June 23 and an hour on June 24.
