Hey look. TV has discovered that there are people who work in hospitals called "nurses" and that they're every bit as interesting and life-saving as doctors. Thanks, TV!
Up first is Showtime's "Nurse Jackie," followed by TNT's "HawthoRNe" and then the NBC midseason drama "Mercy."
"Nurse Jackie" gets the trend started right. It's a pitch-black comedy about a nurse working the emergency room at a busy New York City hospital. Even if she weren't played by Edie Falco, she'd be interesting, but played by Falco, Jackie is instantly one of the year's great new TV characters.
