For two weeks in a row--and three episodes because back-to-back episodes ran one week in mid-April--we got repeats of "SVU."  That ends tonight.  Starting tonight, we get four episodes in a row of "Law & Order: SVU" including the season finale.  As of our writing, the series has not yet been renewed for a 16th season which isn't to say that it isn't going to happen, just that it hasn't happened as of this moment.  So, whether it returns or whether it doesn't, tune in and watch season 15 come to a close.  Plus, if you've been watching, you know about all the issues Benson has been having, and they continue tonight.

Tonight's episode of "SVU" features Tony Award-winner Billy Porter.  He is going to be portraying a singing coach who gets into some hot water when he goes on a reality show and he gets accused of sexual abuse.  Almost needless to say (but we're doing it anyway) there is some digging into his history and less-than-good things come to light.  We imagine, as this is "Law & Order" that there are going to be twists and turns and other things afoot as well.

Some people think of Alan Alda as being Hawkeye Pierce, and we're one of them.  However, we also think of Elliott Gould as being Hawkeye.  We are, as you may be aware, being completely ridiculous.  Donald Sutherland played Hawkeye in the film, Gould played Trapper John, but we still think of Gould as being Hawkeye (some things you just can't shake).  Correctly, we also think of Gould as Monica's dad.  For whatever reason we don't consider him to be Ross's father, but quite clearly he is that as well. As for Charles Grodin.  Well, he's the bad guy from "The Great Muppet Caper," and in our world that's pretty high praise.  Both those men as well as Anthony Rapp and Raul Esparza guest star tonight on "SVU."

Tony Hale also seems like he could play a bad guy really well, doesn't he?  We have actually felt for quite some time that he deserves a role in a comic book film as a baddie.  Obviously "Law & Order: SVU" isn't a comic book movie and obviously a suspect isn't necessarily a bad guy, but Tony Hale is on "SVU" tonight and he is playing a suspect.  It won't give Hale quite the number of comedic opportunities he might like, but that doesn't mean he won't be terribly engrossing (and, FYI, we're kind of hoping Martha Stewart, who also guest stars, is the culprit).

We imagine that if you're truly a part of the Special Victims Unit you need more than a few weeks to rest and recuperate after a string of new cases.  Happily for the actors on this series, they're not actually on such a unit  (they just play one on TV).  Consequently, this 'spring premiere' airing only a couple of weeks after their last new episode has been, hopefully, just long enough for them to have taken breather and come up with new disturbing cases and dastardly villains to put before us for our viewing pleasure.

As guest stars go, let's face it, Andre Braugher is a pretty fantastic one to have on your series.  We love Andre Braugher.  We've loved him since back in the day on "Homicide."  Now, naturally, we find it moderately amusing that Richard Bezler was on "Homicide" as well and, in fact, is playing the same character here that he played on that Baltimore-based cop show.  We have to assume that the two men have a few laughs about that, grab a couple of drinks, and then get down to business (even if that business doesn't have them on camera together at the same time).

Most of the "Law & Order" franchise has had a revolving door cast, but not "SVU," at least not until now.  "SVU" is sporting some new cast members and missing some old ones, and we think that, as with the other series in the franchise, it hasn't worked all that badly.  We do, hugely, miss the old dynamic, but we think that with some time and some added history this could work.  New episodes are starting tonight after several weeks of repeats, give "SVU" a once (or twice) over and see what you think about the new dynamic.

"Law & Order:  SVU" has always been the "Law & Order" series in which the characters at the heart of the show really and truly mattered.  Benson and Stabler were the glue which held everything together.  That's changed this year, but what hasn't changed is the series propensity for guest stars.  This week we're getting Izabella Miko and Timothy Busfield, and if you know anything about us, it's that we'll watch Timothy Busfield in just about anything.  In fact, we have whole scenes of "Little Big League" memorized... that movie actually taught us how to do some pretty hard math problems.  A plus B over A times B -- it's a great formula, we recommend you use it.

What is there not to like about Rita Wilson?  She is like the every woman who has made good.  She seems so down to Earth, so approachable, so likable.  Plus, she married this down to Earth, approachable, likable guy.  It's a match made in heaven and one which we think we'd like to be a part of (although that may change the dynamic).  Wilson is going to be taking on the role of an over-protective mother tonight.  We've all been a little over-protective before, but when that's said about in "SVU" episode, it probably means something more than average over-protectiveness.

You are going to be tempted, upon hearing of this week's guest stars, to believe that this is a "Full House" reunion, but a dark and creepy one as this is "SVU."  Well, this is not a reunion, you're confusing Lori Singer with Lori Loughlin.  Lori Singer was on "Fame" and "Footloose."  Tonight she'll be playing an adoptive mother and Stamos will be the apparently terribly creepy guy.  It may not be that it's evil, but if watching him on "Glee" has taught us anything, it's that Stamos can be evil (how could he take away Mr. Schuester's love like that?).

Jeremy Irons is returning to "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" to reprise his role as Captain Jackson.  He'll be helping Benson and Stabler on their case tonight which probably means that he won't be pretending that his name is Simon and giving Bruce Willis a whole bunch of ridiculous clues to follow in order to pretend like he, Simon, hasn't stolen a whole bunch of gold that he has in fact actually stolen.  Hans Gruber's brother indeed.  We know Irons has a massive body of excellent work, but we just love him as Simon.

We feel a little weird watching "Law & Order: SVU" because two actresses we greatly...admire...are going to be on, but that's exactly what's going to make us tune in this week.  We've...admired...Maria Bello and Alex Kingston since they were on "ER" back in the day, and we imagine that we'll be...admiring...them for many years to come.  There are some people you can just...admire...for years and these two actresses are certainly among them.  The only issue is that the types of stories this show tells don't really allow for much...admiration...to take place.  We'll work something out though and recommend that you try to as well.

We have no idea what David Alan Grier is doing on the show tonight or if they're going to allow him to crack wise in any way, but we do know that Grier is going to be on the show which we assume means that there was cracking wise on the set.  We really don't have anything to back up that assertion outside of the fact that Grier is a funny man and has made with the jokes on lots of programs, but that kind of feels like enough, doesn't it?  Surely it's at least enough to make us think he could be the guy.  Hey, wow, look at us, we're like detectives piecing together a case.

We have always felt bad for Jennifer Love Hewitt.  First she was on that incredibly depressing "Party of Five."  The only thing more depressing than that show was how quickly her spinoff got canceled.  Later, she spent a few years having to talk to ghosts all the time.  Can you imagine the dead bothering you on a regular basis?  We can't, it's not like you can tell them to go jump off a bridge, they're already dead.  Now, Love is on "SVU" as the victim, but they're using her case to introduce us to "Law & Order: Los Angeles" cast members.  Doesn't she deserve better?

Often shocking and sometimes 'shipping, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" has, it seems, taken the crown away from the original "Law & Order" as the premiere edition of the franchise in recent seasons.  Benson and Stabler have made character important on a franchise which otherwise has seemed to eschew the notion that cast was more relevant than crime.  One wonders what the good folks over in the unit will have to deal with tonight as their season draws to a close.  We humbly suggest you tune in to find out.

Sharon Stone is going to be guest starring on this week's episode as ADA Jo Marlowe, and we hope that means that she gets put into an interrogation room.  Yes, we know this is broadcast television and that they won't be recreating "Basic Instinct" (and that "Basic Instinct" is almost 20 years old).  However, that doesn't mean that we don't think of it every time we hear the words 'Sharon Stone' and 'interrogation' put remotely near one another.  If you're being honest with yourself, you probably do too and that's okay, it's an iconic moment in cinematic history.
